I'm reading Insomnia now, but with all the hype I'm pondering on reading The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones later... Should I?
I took the kids to see Catching Fire this weekend and now I am reading the books - starting with the first. Movie was great and my 13 year old says the books are much better.

I'm reading The Silence Of The Lambs. I've never read it but seen the movie a gazillion times. Of course, the book is very good but I'm impressed with how faithful the movie was to this book (although I've still got a few pages left so things could change :biggrin2:). There are a few small omissions but it's very similar. The drawback to this is that it seems like I've read it before.

That's a great book, one of my favorite, too. I liked it even better than the movie.

Yes they are. Enjoy!

I read The October List by Jeffery Deaver and it made me mad! It is a story told backwards so I was confused for most of the book. It finally began making sense in the last 2 or 3 chapters but than I had go back and start it over again at the beginning. And it wasn't really that good! :what:

I am finishing up Anne Rice's The Wolves of MIdwinter, the second of her new series; great read. Have Sue Grafton's W is for .... and Jeffrey Deaver's October List downloaded on my droid to read after I finish Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin which was recommended by someone here.
LOVE Crooked Letter - one of the first books I read on my Kindle. Enjoy!

We have the same taste in books and authors so I am wondering what you thought of The October List?

Dr. Fudd, don't be so hard on yourself. Of course you are a good person. God created you. He didn't make crap. We all have good and bad.
I'm not good by the biblical standard set by Jesus Christ, "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God."(Mark 10:18 and see also Matt 19:17) But the good thing is, bad people (who realize it and repent) go to heaven, so I'm ok with it. No good people hung out with Jesus, so I'm even encouraged.

Just finished THE COLORADO KID! I bought it long ago, read the beginning, then lost it. I found it yesterday in a box of Christmas stuff ( :stupid: ) and finally settled down to read it :) Good story (though the cover is SO misleading)!

Just think of the cover as something that one of the two old guys would've had in their garage on a calendar when they were younger. It is a good book, even if there isn't quite an answer to everything asked in it.

Just finished Ender's Game. Very good book with a helluva good ending. Moving on to the next Ender book and also reading Pet Sematery by Mr. Kin, On the Trail of the Assassins, by Jim Garrison, and my current Dark Tower book is The Drawing of the Three.

I don't even care that everything isn't resolved. I agree with the reporter guys--real life rarely offers that option. It was a compelling story, realistically paced, and well-written. I haven't read Mr. King's novellas in a while; this story reminded me why so many of them place high among my favorite stories.

I also liked the fact that everything wasn't explained, King left it up to the reader to figure out an explaination. Reading this book was like sitting down at that table with the three characters and listening in to their conversation- something King is an expert at crafting.

I loved Ender's Game back when it first came out in the 80's. My kid's loved it too when they read it in the 90's. I think it's just a classic story that stands the test of time. I didn't think the sequels were as good as the first one though.
