Envying y'all reading Mr. Mercedes! I finished Infected (Scott Sliger) yesterday-really good book! Reading Carthage right now (thanks to the rec here); it's very good so far. Next up: Woman in Black, Dust&Decay, Flesh&Bone. I keep telling myself I'll wait to get the new King...but I'm probably lying (book check received today is burning a hole in my pocket-lol)

Hope your liking it better than I did? Easily my least favorite of the series.
I read a bit every night before bed - I did think the second book was much better in that it really kept my attention. I think I might have had one "book hangover" at work from that one (staying up into the wee hours and then paying the price the next day at work!)

Lovely expression Neesy! I've had so many of those. Once i've even said that i stayed up all night because of a book (must have looked like a wreck since they asked) and they only looked a little funny at me as if i've suddenly grown a third arm or something.;-D

I'm a little over half way through Mr. Mercedes and enjoying it. Meanwhile I might as well try to give a quick run down of a few of the audibles I enjoyed while commuting.

The first 3 were good, not great books, for my taste.

What The Night Knows. Good, not great book about psycho killer possession, murder, and a family in the crosshairs.

Amazon.com: What the Night Knows (with bonus novella Darkness Under the Sun): A Novel eBook: Dean Koontz: Kindle Store

Winter Moon. Good, not great book about an alien creating spooky havoc in rural Montana.

Day By Day Armagedon. Good zombie series from the perspective of a military guy that survives and helps other survivors.

The next 3 books, I really enjoyed for different reasons.

Ready Player One. I really enjoyed this book. Set 30 years in the future, the US economy stinks, and people spend most their day in multiple virtual worlds. A super billionaire dies leaving clues from the 80’s spread among the virtual worlds. The prize is all his wealth and ownership of all the virtual domains.

Amazon.com: Ready Player One eBook: Ernest Cline: Kindle Store

Silver Lining Playbook. Romance stories do not usually make my list unless the romance is hidden among other stories. A friend said he really liked the movie, and I picked up the book on special and really enjoyed it. The main character’s OCD nature made for an amusing story. I saw the movie later and was not impressed.

Amazon.com: The Silver Linings Playbook: A Novel eBook: Matthew Quick: Kindle Store

Replay, Another good book. I enjoyed the concept of a different kind of time travel.

Amazon.com: Replay eBook: Ken Grimwood: Kindle Store

Well of course a certain German Automobile has passed into my two (2) hands.
Quite well built if I my say so. A great ride ride from start to finish. (sorry)
Justed ripped through Harlan Coben's books in the last two months (Thanks auntie). Very impressed. Great dialogue and impossible to put the bastard down.Love the literary self-deprecation and parental warmth that runs through his books.
Was recommended Michael Connelly - The Black Echo is very accomplished.
Rather like a certain Mr Bavarian-Car-Manufacturer.

It, 11/22/63 and joyland did that to me too. I done myself out of a large number of hours sleep with those.

I'm about 105 pages into Mr. Mercedes... "It's guuuud" [think Jim Carey]
Ha ha, I loved that film.

Just finished The Empty Chair (was very good), and started Mr. Mercedes. Almost hated to start it, because then it will eventually have to end!
I just love having it here with me to read!

You sound like me, I try to control myself and not start the "latest" SK until the next book is published.
So I'm about to read Dr Sleep.
That way I always have an "ace in the hole", in this case Mr Mercedes.
I relish the anticipation before starting, enjoy the ride, want to finish it but hate it when I have!
Sounds like I'm hooked, help I'm an SK junkie!
Hope it's many years before I have to go "cold turkey"

Oh, i have read a lot of him. But not Enigma. But I have read Archangel, Pompei, Imperium, Lustrum and Ghost (or was it ghostwriter?) The three roman ones were very good. As were An Officer... but I thought Ghost and Archangel were a bit weaker but still good. Will try to pick up Enigma somewhere.
I wasn't expecting the ending in 'Ghost'. The film was directed by Roman Polanski, he directed from Rome - I think because he is under threat of arrest for fornicating with an under age girl. good film I love archangle, like the main character. I am on my second reading of Officer.

Re: Chandler, I have seend the movies, Robert Mitchum i think played the dectivive. I enjoyed them. I think i read, 'The big sleep' i think there was a movie with Bacall/bogie in it. I am currently reading Mr Mercedes (obviously) and an office and a spy(agai) I am awaiting some excellent books - Zulu rising, about the zulu attack on the british, two things to note: There was more Victoria crosses handed out that day then WWI & WWII Combined. also,When they were defending the infantry formed a square and this was never broken until the zulus did it. I am also awaiting Hell riders re: charge of the Light brigade. There were two charges in this battle - The chargle of the light brigade and the heavvy brigade. Iron Mqiden have a song called the tropper about this. Listen to the lyrics. Finally i am getting a autobigraphy of Jane Russell - Back in her heyday she took a shoot on have with her clevage barely covered. And i am also getting a book on Olivia de Hallivand and Joan Fontaine - 2 sissters who had a fight an d never talked to each other again.
