I started The Leftovers last night, but not sure whether I'll continue. Half way through the first ep it started to seem familiar; I realized that I've read the book the show is based upon and didn't like it much. Apparently the seasons after the first are non-book based, though, and do some interesting things with the story. I dunno. Maybe I'll stick with it for a while and see if it grows on me.

I haven't read the book but watched the show. Seasons 2 & 3 are very good (and a bit weird) and the way they end the show is bold. From reviews that I've read, I think that season 1 is most of the book and most reviews consider that season 1 is the weakest. Seasons 2 & 3 take the story and go in a different direction than what you think after watching season 1. I think you will like it if you get past season 1.

One thing I don't get about Netflix: it remembers which episode you are in a series, or if you didn't finish a film where you quit. However, if you want to stop watching something all together how do you get it out of your list of 'continue watching'?

So far, I have to say apart from the two King adaptations, Gerald's Game and 1922, the horrorfilms on Netflix here are quite a mixed bag. There are some solid ones, but also a lot of poor or weak ones: XX, I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House, Death Note, Creep. Even insane Indian ones, 1920: London which has hilariously bad Exorcist-inspired scenes (in between highly romantic sung videoclip-like parts).
But I suppose its main goal is series, which are of course for the most part really good.

my friends and i finally caught up on Suits, now i'm trying to get them into The West Wing.

meanwhile i'm watching the usual medley of fall shows. Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supernatural, to name a few. gotta say i'm so far rather disappointed in all of the "Arrowverse" shows, it's like the showrunners are completely off their rockers. not one of the shows feels like it's the same. can an entire group of shows in a connected universe simultaneously jump the shark?

Is anyone watching Godless on Netflix? It's a limited-series western starring a surprisingly wicked Jeff Daniels. I'm just two episodes in, but it's really good and I'd like to encourage everyone here to have a look. The opening scene grabbed me for a special reason, which I'll put in spoilers below.

The show opens with the aftermath of Jeff Daniels' character's gang murdering nearly everyone in a small town. It made me think I was watching the scene in The Gunslinger where he just offed everyone in Tull. Then it made me mad and sad all over again for what could have been if The Dark Tower had been a television show instead of the film we got. It was a nice surprise for me.

I refused to ever watch that show on account that they couldn't even call the show by his full title: Green Arrow. Plus, not a fan of the Bruce Wayne re-hash for the character.

Ah jeez, I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House had such a great title but was so boring.

I’m two episodes in as well, and I really like it. For all you Downton Abbey fans, you’ll forget that Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) ever had an English accent.
