Is anyone watching Mindhunter on Netflix? I'm 5 episodes in.

It's set in the late 70s and based on the early days of FBI research into what we now know as "serial killers" (they're initially referred to as sequential killers) and criminal profiling. Two FBI agents interview incarcerated killers to understand their motives in the hopes that this knowledge will assist in solving ongoing cases.

It's a drama, but heavy on procedural. There aren't any key dramatic beats or shock moments like what we've become accustomed to with contemporary "dramas." A lot of it shows the drab routine of the agents' work, with all the clinical research and painstaking information gathering. These are the early days of heinous crimes, where cops reporting to scenes of rapes and mutilations are crippled with shock and horror, a far cry from the measured cynicism of investigators in shows set in the modern era. It's also interesting to watch the hurdles the agents face in trying to highlight the value of understanding the criminal psyche, even with their colleagues. Most of the authority figures don't care about the criminals' childhood or past experiences; they're just happy to see them either dead or rotting in jail.

I heartily recommend this show, but know what you're getting into: it isn't a sexy drama full of cool moments and snappy dialogue. If you want CSI, go watch that. This remains as authentic as possible to the era, with lovely cinematography (remember the good old days when people knew how to hold a bloody camera steady when filming a scene?) and solid performances all around. The first couple of episodes are a little dry and there aren't any cliffhanger endings to make you race to the next episode. It tells its story at a deliberate pace, but it's a fascinating look at the evolution of techniques that modern-day protective services rely on heavily for treating with incredibly dangerous people.

I'm almost done with this and I like it. The first episode was kind of a snoozer and I almost didn't get past that but I'm glad I did. The thing about this show that is so good is the way the FBI behavioral characters are written (and played). Sometimes they are on the same page and excited about their progress and sometimes they seem like they can't stand each other. The three of them have the same goal but have different ideas on how to get there. The way that tension plays out from episode to episode is fascinating. I'm on episode 9 and now I realize that the first episode probably wasn't the snoozer I thought it was but was necessary character background. Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany have an amazing chemistry in their scenes together.

Yes, that's another thing I like about the two leads: sometimes they get along, sometimes they'll just be annoyed with each other for no particular reason. I'm really looking forward to season 2.

Just finished watching the final season of Black Sails. I love this show. It's by far the best depiction of pirates I've seen on television or film: great drama with just the right amount of action, a complex story-line, with none of the tacky "Arr-matey" nonsense that early films introduced into pop culture. Toby Stephens is an absolute standout with his performance as Captain Flint, but in truth, the performance of the entire cast is uniformly strong. If you haven't seen this show as yet, put it on your list. And in case you need a further incentive: it's a prequel to Treasure Island. I'm glad that the show lasted only four seasons and it wasn't dragged out. It's forty hours of solid entertainment.

Colony, Season 2 with The Man (not great, but something to watch together until Walking Dead comes back--the first season was better)

This Is Us, season 2 with Daughter #1 (FINALLY getting to this one! I loved season 1, and the 2 eps of season 2 that I've seen have been good)

ER with Daughter #2 and Son #2 (They're as hooked as I am--lol)

Fear the Walking Dead by myself (we loathed the second season so much that we didn't bother buying the third, but then I heard that it was much better than the first 2 so I'm watching it on Hulu. So far, it is much better)

Last night I watched 30 minutes of Cujo, and finished the rest of the movie The Debt Collector(Billy Connolly). I ken not understand why me bairn don't go to Kirk.

Unrelated to your post, but awww, I love your profile pic. Just the other day for no reason the theme song popped in my head. I think that show is why I always loved dogs since I was a kid.

I enjoy the figure skating

This video is actually from the Nationals, but they did do very well and the Canadian team won gold =D

Oh yes - also the video I posted is actually ice dance, but I like both!
What is the difference between the two events. Do you know what the team events are? I think this is something new

Anyone enjoying The Olympics? I like singles curling oddly enough

I love curling! Glad the Canadians won the mixed doubles gold. Hoping our ladies and/or gentlemen can medal in team curling.

Right now, though, I am watching The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Man, Cunanan was one effed up dude!

Finished Star Trek Discovery Season 1

Some People really picked this Series to Pieces "Not Star Trek here, not Star Trek there" "This is not the Starfleet" blablablub.
For me, it was really great Entertainment and sometimes it is just Entertainment!!

It had great Characters and Actors and awesome Twists.
Ok, something like the Spores Drive needs getting used to and this is one of the Issues of the "Old Trekkies"

I'm really looking forward for Season 2

I'm slowly making my way through it. I love Star Trek, but I just can't connect with this series. It's a well-made show, but to me, ST was always about the joy of discovery. This show ain't that. So far the only thing I really like is the Klingons, but the rest of the characters just don't register. I'll finish the season though, let's see how it goes.

Currently and mostly the Olympics - loved the Men's program last night. I think John Weir's commentary is hysterical and his fashion is always cool. And Tara. They are a great commentary team. Whoever the guy is with them cracks me up too. The couple's skate is always exciting to me.

The Ogre and I are digging the curling. It seems like maybe it's something you could do while you have a beer on the side - very much like shuffleboard. The Skeleton was cool to watch - and terrifying. Can you imagine the moms watching on the sidelines?

I've been watching Divorce on HBO xfinity. This season - so far - has not been as good as last season.
Project Runway All Stars has been a little boring. I don't like the competitions - they bore me. Betty Boop fashion? Seriously.
Chopped aggrivated me with that candy/cake thing. Just keep doing like you always have please.
Even My 600 Pound Life is doing it for me. I only watch to see Dr. Now.
Maybe I'm just in a mood.

Working my way slowly through Fear the Walking Dead season 3. We gave up on the show after season 2, but then I kept hearing that the third season was much better. It finally showed up on Hulu, so... Yes, it is a lot better than season 2, but LORD I hate Blond Mom. She's the Andrea of this show. I hope she gets eaten. Junkie Depp finally cut that greasy disgusting hair, but he's still annoying. Better storylines, horribly off-putting characters (lol).
