LOL...no, you didn't give much away. I did read the book.
Maybe Bill is Sadie's abusive ex? He had a different name in book. Just a guess.
Nah - Bill tags along with Jake and causes trouble. The series seems to be taking lots of creative liberties. A bit different from the book. Entertaining but not the same. Is it ever?

I finished The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix last week. Exceeded my expectations. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be afraid to turn off the lights. I was going to write a long review with detailed explanations but I have been too busy. Anyone seen it? This is the Flanagan limited series, not one of the film adaptations of the novel. I watched it the day it came out but apparently there is a lot of hype surrounding it. It deserves the attention it's getting.

Doc, you were so right recommending this. I started it over the weekend. I just love what Flanagan is doing here. It's great drama and terrible, terrible tragedy peppered with supernatural horror. The first three episodes reminded me of reading IT the first time, with all the shifting timelines. The jigsaw puzzle comes together beautifully from ep 4, but I had to take a break after the "Bent-Necked Lady" episode. It was just so sad and scary.

You can tell that the director comes from the generation that grew up reading Stephen King, and I can see now why they chose him to adapt Doctor Sleep. Kudos to Netflix for spending the cash and high profile adaptations like this.

I love The Haunting of Hill House! On Twitter, both Stephen King and Joe Hill were recommending the series quite highly. Yes, the series does jump all over the timeline and it took me awhile to figure out who was who. Also, I read Flanagan’s tweet when he first learned that Sai King had not only watched his production but praised it as well. I think Flanagan said he sort of let out a squeal as he read SK’s tweet. Who wouldn’t? But yes, the story was well written, well produced, well directed, well acted. And very frightening. Like when some characters had no control over their own actions at times. The stuff of nightmares.

I got busy, but I had started to watch the first four or five episodes of a sadly-cancelled-after-only-thirteen show called Freakylinks done by Haxan Films, the guys behind the Blair Witch Project. It's both dark and hilarious, and yes, even scary in a creepy, non-cheap-jumps way, (like the Blair Witch Project before it, though the movie was lacking in the sense of humor the show has) and precedes Cloverfield by eight years in hand-held, found footage with a high budget, clearly the spoils of tBWP. It takes things one further by jumping back and forth to the 'God's eye' point of view whenever they turn the hand-helds off. Maybe it took too much of a turn toward the comedic, I haven't finished watching yet, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as the last episode I've seen so far, about the desert squid, was screamingly hilarious where it needed to be, and suspenseful where it was called for. And there have been relatively big name guest actors in every episode so far.

It seems there won't be commentaries on Picnic at Hanging Rock blu-ray. I enjoyed it at least as much as the original film. I might get it on blu-ray which I rarely do anymore, because it's hard to find time to rewatch an entire series. But it's only six episodes. Utterly fascinating and you want the insights of the makers and actors to understand more of the meaning. or at least their view of it.

"what you dont know wont hurt you, what you look for...... might get you."Just getting back to Freakylinks, only four epis left, the only rthng I have against it is they leaped right over an unresolved issue for the character Chloe.

Chloe's issues in Freakylinks got resolved in the second to last episode. I think the episode was placed out of sequence like 'Objects in Space' on Firefly which was aired as a series closer but was not written into the over all story arc that way. I think that's supposed to be a prime indicator that a network is about to cancel your show. I've now watched DareDevil, Jessica Jones, and am on Luke Cage .... and in between I continue to watch/re-watch Space Battle Ship Yamato (known in its English dub as Star Blazers. The first season originally aired in 1975 and is a huuuge influence on Star Wars right down to IQ 9 who is actually a more interesting idea and design than R2D2) They even had a holographia room, though thrown in as a joke looks to have influenced Star Trek: The Next Generation although Star Trek TOS probably influenced Yamato. But, then there were an awful lot of Japanese sci-fi movies that I think may have influenced Roddenberry too, perhaps even Clarke and 2001: A Space Odyssey .... such as 1959's Battle in Outer Space ... I even see influence on Doctor Who in some of these Japanese late fifties/early sixties flicks ....

We didn't get Nightflyers here. That was supposed to start yesterday. I thought it was a Netflix original, but apparently not.

I also hope we'll be getting the new Watership Down at the end of the month.

I have little hope for the Dark Crystal prequel series. It seems nothing is happening with that anymore unfortunately.

I also hope we'll be getting the new Watership Down at the end of the month.

This should air on BBC One on 22 December and be available on Netflix from the 23rd. It's hard to find details about length though. There is talk about two feature length episodes, but also four episodes. BBC schedule is only available until the 21st at the moment, so it just falls outside that.

The cast looks amazing.

The BBC schedule is online and Watership Down will be two episodes of 100 mins. each, airing on 22 and 23 December on BBC One.

I was watching the new Mowgli on Netflix and wonder if the violence in that wil have the same traumatizing effect on young viewers the original Watership Down did at the time.

I’m not one for TV shows with the exception of anthologies and rewatching cartoons of my earlier childhood, but I started watching The X-Files this weekend, and I must say I enjoyed what very little I’ve watched so far, I do enjoy supposed “real documentations” of alien/supernatural sightings and I like it’s way of fictionalizing them
