i am about to throw myself into the fire by openly admitting that currently, i am reading..."Petals on the Wind" book 2 in the "Flowers in the Attic" series by V.C. Andrews.

Why? Because i have not laid eyes on these books since 7th grade and i want to see if it was just as awesome as i remembered. The new tv movie had been released about a month ago and it was, to put it lightly, heinous. "This is NOTHING like the book!" i groused. "The dialogue is awful.... it's SO TWILIGHT! What a bunch of trash."

Guess what? It was EXACTLY like the book, nearly matching it word to word. All my friends thought that woman was a regular Shakespeare.... reading it now makes me cringe and then burst out into wild giggles.
Good to see you VampireLily! And I remember those books. Yep, read every single one in the series :) I remember them making me feel a little lusty...

I hate it when you are driven by an urge and the damn latch on the door doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!

I know it doesn't fit the thread, but I just felt the need to share.
Last Friday I went on a school trip with my 6-year-old... bus ride, day at the beach-paddling in the lagoon, small jaunt in the surf... sandcastles, sculptures and scavenger hunts... the works.
At one point one of the adults lost track of one of their kids (we were 1:4 ratio) this is a whole other story ( :glare: ) but anyway, long story short(er) I ended up getting soaked looking for the child in the lagoon. (she was fine--had slipped into someone else's pod)
When I went to change (& use the er... loo) before getting on the bus... the stall I was in wouldn't lock. I kinda like my privacy--especially when surrounded by a gaggle of kids. I'm not terribly tall and so the door was far away from the toilet.
I ended up stacking my backpack, camera bag and shoes on top of each other so they would reach the bottom of the door to hold it shut. Plus, I kept saying "I'm in here!" whenever feet approached the door. :biggrin2:

I went through a serious Flowers in the Attic phase. I'm not sure how old I was, but it was so creepy and weird I just couldn't get enough. I read them until the brother and sister were 'together' and the sister was a ballet dancer.

I read one of two ways, the latter being less frequent lately.

1 - In bed, curled up and until I pass out.

2 - On my couch, with some wine or other fun drink, sprawled out with a dog and/or cat somewhere nearby, usually pinning me to the couch and read until I get sleepy then toddle off to bed.

Once I start reading I usually can't really stop unless I get tired. I've taken an entire day several times before and spent it reading. Before I knew it, it was time to go to bed/get the kid on the bus/get to work.

I have to read before I can sleep. Even if it's only for a few minutes. Sometimes I go to bed early so I can read longer. I love a wet weekend afternoon. I love the afternoon when I get in from work. On my break at work. I just love to read.
i can't read in bed. don't know why just can't. must be that nicole kidman ringing me to marry her. too young for me

Well, I have my GCSE Exams coming up soon, so I find my reading time limited. However, for my love of reading, I wake up at 6:00 AM, get ready for school, then read for a while until my bus is due, with a cup off Coffee (reading is much better with a coffee!). Dragging my day through the day, I come home to a heap load off studying I must do, and then reading when I go to bed at about 21:30-22:00. Just waiting until my exams have finished and the extreme reading will commence.

I haven't been doing anything lately but working and reading. I've gotten into a habit of getting up at 5 or 6 AM and reading until it's time to get ready to head out. That's usually 3 or 4 hours. If I get home early enough I will read until it's supper time, sometimes an hour or so. If I get home around 5 I'll eat and then read sometimes up until bed. I just don't have a very busy life right now so I'm taking advantage of it. I've never been one to be able to read a book very slowly, even if I'm pressed for time. I like to get them going and keep turning the pages but obviously time can be a problem with reading. Weekends off are nice though. If I don't stay up all night i'll still get up early and get started and I sometimes read literally all day long. I love it! I love the outdoors, it's not like im a hermit, but I do love to read and I tend to make time for reading, almost regardless.

One thing I absolutely can not stand is getting tired while reading, especially if you weren't ready to stop. I hate the feeling of trying your best to keep up but before you know it you're dozing in and out and losing your place. I'm sure everyone has experienced the feeling of being in love with a book, possibly being near the end of one, and tiring, attempting to fight it to continue on, LOL!

This has probably been done before, and I apologize if it has, but I haven't seen it talked about recently so I thought I'd ask..
What are your reading habits? When do you prefer to read? Where? How much time do you usual preserve daily for reading? Any habits you've formed while reading? Nicotine while reading? Snacks, drinks?
For me, lately I haven't been very busy as far as after work and weekends go, so I've devoted an awful, awful lot of time towards reading. I haven't been a member here long, and I started back reading right when I joined the site. In that time I've read Doctor Sleep, Carrie, Full Dark No Stars, Lone Survivor, Helter Skelter, Duma Key, Cell & Joyland. I just started Under The Dome about 3 days ago and I'm 400 pages in, paperback Part One I might add.
When I have to work, I usually get up around 5 or 6 am now and read for 3 hours or so until I go in. I love reading right when I get up for some reason. If I have no real plans I usually get home, shower, eat and read again, sometimes up until I go to bed, sometimes i'll take a break and read again before bed. A couple of times recently I've read from around 6 pm to 11 pm. Honestly I'd rather go slower and let the stories last longer but some books just can't be put down. The hours go by sometimes without you even paying attention to them.
I had just started getting back into reading and writing when I joined here, so I had missed a ton of King's more recent work, so I thought I'd try and catch up on everything I missed after Cell, then read Joe Hill's work, and eventually re read the older King classics. Some of which I haven't even read, or I did attempt to but they went over my head as I was much younger. Happy we have 2 new novels coming out this year!
Never been able to read in the morning. I'm one of these persons that takes time to properly wake up. I can get dressed andeat and shower and get to work but still be half asleep. I read when i'm home again. usually in the evening and start about 8 or 9 in the evening til about midnight. A always read in bed with a coke on the bedtable and sometimes some cashewnuts to nibble on. If i get really hooked i forget time and when i look at the clock to see if it's time to get to sleep i suddenly find out that it is five in the morning. Doesn't do much for my sleeping habits but on the other hand can't sleep if I don't read anything either. It's kind of a problem...
