Since The Stand is so long and involving, I went with Different Seasons-- four stories, none too long in length.

Yes, AchtungBaby nailed that one! Skeleton Crew would work too, but Different Seasons is one of my favorites.

I would say that you would need a break with short stories after The Stand.

All of Mr. King's short story or novella collections are marvelous.
