I need to do more crock pot cooking. What do you all do?
I don’t know, my mom threw out her crockpot after some show she watches made her paranoid that it’s switch was going to wobble to “on” and set the house on fire. She threw out a wedding gift because of a fictional show, that’s like driving your 58’ plymoth into a tree after reading Christine.

I just sat down - it's 9:06pm. I'm doing something wrong. I spend way too much time cooking and cleaning up the kitchen after cooking. I do pause in between to eat. And I take the dogs for a ride (yes, because it's too hot to walk right now, but they go nuts if they don't get an outing). But still, I've been home since 5:30. I made salmon, roasted carrots, zucchini and squash over couscous. It was divine and healthy, but still. I need to do more crock pot cooking. What do you all do?
I love my crock pots (I have two of them). Really need to start using them more, now that the colder weather is upon us (at least it is up here). They're good for soups and stews or pretty much any recipe where you like a nice slow cook e.g. cheaper cuts of meat.

Just throw some meat in there with lots of onions, some chopped celery and carrot plus whatever seasonings you like. If you put it on low in the morning the house smells really good when you get home from work. It also helps if you have the kind that will turn itself off and keep the food warm once the programmed cycle is done.

I don't use the probe that came with mine but I do like the removable liner which makes it easier to clean.

This one is model 33966C (in case you're in the market for one)

Worked. Took my 1st accounting exam. Got an A (it gets scored once you submit it). Did my online homework assignment.

BrodyDog walk in a bit. Watch Sox / Yankees game.

I like to "barbecue" pork in the slow cooker (professional restrictions keep me from calling it a Crock Pot, because it's not that brand). I know it's not true barbecue, but it simmers in barbecue sauce, and I don't know what else to call it.

Anyway, I doctor up some standard barbecue sauce out of the bottles with cider vinegar, Cholula sauce, cumin, chili powder, garlic, cilantro, and some specialty spices that I get from Oregon.

I put the pork into the slow cooker, add sliced onion, poblano pepper, Anaheim peppers, and bell peppers. I dump the barbecue sauce over it, making sure the fluid covers it up, put the cover on the cooker, and start it up. I usually start it on high, then ratchet it down later, but if I have to leave the house right away and it's early, I'll leave it on low.

An hour or two before mealtime, I'll grab a couple robust forks and pull the meat apart into chunky threads, then let it simmer more. If it's amazingly tender and tasty by then, I might click the cooker down to "warm."

Oh, I forgot. I'll add fresh spinach in there too. It's good for you, it doesn't really taste like much of anything, it shrivels down to almost nothing, and it seems to soak up extra fat in the sauce.

I've done this with brisket and chicken, too, but the pork's my favorite.

Using your crockpot is a great idea HollyGolightly and it puts out some great food and you will get some free time in the evening.
I will post a couple recipes in the Recipes thread for you.

More to the point of the thread, I'm buried, took some time to look at my beloved forum, and I gotta get back to work now.

It's a little better than yesterday. Yesterday, I wrote this, and if you're a Facebook friend, you saw it, and if you're not and want to be, feel free to add me. Just let me know who you are, because I don't accept people who either aren't in my industry or whom I don't know. I get requests from strangers, including comely young ladies, and I never knew that I had such sex appeal. Gosh. Anyway, fb/jason.meadors is me.

Now, what was I going to talk about? Oh, yeah. My post on yesterday (come to think of it, it might've been Monday). ANYWAY, here it is, but it's calmed down a little since then. A little.

It was the kind of morning that made me think that pouring Jack Daniels over my cereal sounded pretty good.

Okay, okay. First World problems. Just take care of things and move on. Got it good. Shut up and attack the problems.

Besides, I don't actually have Jack Daniels in the house. Probably just as well.

Actually, economics was better. I'm not an accountant, don't want to be an accountant, and will pay someone to be my accountant if i ever start my own business! SwiftDogs and math have not gotten along well since calculus  I should con my sister into doing my assignments because she does accounting work on the side.

That said, the professor has made it virtually impossible to fail one of her exams. My only real complaints are with the on-line tool we have to use to do homework assignments and how we are being graded on our business briefs.

Class is half done now. Then it's on to Financial Management. Another thrilling topic!

I had a female college professor like that, once... Does Fruit Of The Loom make those business briefs? :)

Messing around with jewellery, make-up (which I rarely wear) and other knick-knacks. In other words: nothing productive. :topsy_turvy: Getting back to work is hard. I'm still building up my hours (I've been home for four months because of a burn-out) and I only have to work two hours a day for now, but I'm completely broken when I get home. I doubt I'll be posting much this week. :fatigue:

What I do is wonder what the H everyone else in the world does to make them more productive and organized than I am. Sorry. Not helpful.

Good luck with the crock pot plan HollyGolightly - hope you can free up some "me" time for yourself. You deserve it! :love_heart:
