So I've always had this book in my book shelf but never got around to reading it because I had so many other SK books to catch up on. I hadn't heard much about the book or rave reviews, but I started 2 days ago and I could not put it down. I absolutely loved it, definitely one of my favorites! I'm mad it took me so long to read it. I can't stop thinking about the characters, loved them haha. :p

What did you guys think of it??

I absolutely loved it. But, then that can be said about almost all his books. I don't comment so much on his books, because my comments are mostly the same "I loved this book" :)
I did wish that
Mattie and Mike would have a life together
but I do think the story is better the way Mr. King wrote it.

I loved it too. The film adaptation was not so good, but the book was wonderful.

Welcome, by the way, in case I did not say "welcome to SKMB" yet! :cheerful:

Ooops - guess I should say "Welcome Back!"

Loved it and IMHO the Audiobook - read by the man himself - is the best Audio Adaptation of all his books. Highly recommend you check it out along with the book.

Then read Lisey's Story which is the perfect bookend to Bag Of Bones. ie it's a similar story but told from the wife's POV.

I really liked it, I always love when king gives a really rich history of where the story takes place (It is probably the best example I think, then again I'm obsessed with Derry) but I really enjoyed the fact that the past was present you know?

Yes, me too! Derry is my absolute favorite setting. IT was, by far, the best book I have ever read.

I tend to prefer the more straightforward horror stories, but I think King wrote this one trying to break out of that genre to appeal to a more mainstream audience. He was also probably tired of the critics writing him off as some hack storyteller. It's certainly worked for him since he tends to get glowing reviews these days. Maybe the old guard critics have all died off and been replaced with younger folks who grew up reading him. Whatever the reason this book started that trend of critical acceptance. I do miss the days, though, of books like "The Dead Zone" and "The Shining."

I liked it . . . good change of pace from some of the other tales, and of course great character development and backstory. I think I overlook this one too much when thinking about my favorite novels.

Didn't old Ralph from "Insomnia" make a brief appearance in this one? That was kind of a fun interlude. It's interesting, but I didn't care too much for "Insomnia" but really liked Ralph as a character. I could see someone like Jack Lemmon playing him (except for the inconvenient fact that Lemmon is dead).

I liked Ralph, too. I don't have a favorite spot in my heart for the novel Insomnia, tho. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to think that someone of Ralph's age would know and like songs by Pearl Jam, etc. Just didn't ring true to me. Insomnia could've (and probably should've) been edited down a couple hundred pages. Just abit too long....
