Walsall, England
I was born in London, but only really lived there for a few weeks before my dad was posted to Lisburn (Northern Ireland). After a few months there, army policy changed and dependents were sent home - not that my mom could hack it there anymore anyway.
She and I went back to her hometown, Walsall, which became mine. After fairly brief spells in Gravesend, Kent and Rugby, Warks, I'm back where I kind of belong (or 'belung', as the local dialect tends to have it).

So, what's Walsall famous for? Well, it's the birthplace of Jerome K. Jerome, author of Three Men In A Boat (among other things) and Noddy Holder of Slade.
It used to be well-known for the second-largest regular illuminations display in the country (Blackpool being the largest/most famous), but council cuts meant 'the lights' stopped in 2009, then were cancelled permanently in 2010.
The town is also famous for leather working, and saddle-making in particular. Once upon a time, all English association footballs were also made in the town.
S' theer yer goo. ;)

Winnipeg is knows for a few things - the geographical centre of North America

Canada’s newest National Museum – the Canadian Museum for Human Rights – is the first national museum to be located outside of the capital region.

The closest city to Winnipeg with a population of over a million is Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota – 700 kilometres away.

The first city in North America to use a central emergency number was the Canadian city of Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1959, which instituted the change at the urging of Stephen Juba, mayor of Winnipeg at the time. (from Wikipedia)

We also have a very large population of indigenous or First Nations people here.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is Canada’s oldest dance company. It’s also the longest continuously operating ballet company in North America.

sweden-stockholm-city-hall.jpg

Or Old Town Its oldest parts are from the 13,th century. Its here that Stockholm was founded. Most streets are so narrow that no trafic are allowed. They werent built with cars in mind.
sweden-stockholm-old-town.jpg

Or the precurser to Titanic. The big galley Vasa built 1628 that sank on its maiden voyage. It was excavated 1961 and put together. 95 % of the pieces are original. The museum has over a million visitors each year.
sweden-stockholm-vasa.jpg

Thats a few of the things. Then of course the many beautiful parks. That at least are some things Stockholm is known for.

This is such a fun thread! :joyous:

And oh yeah, apparently we are also known for the Floriade... It was held here in '12, and there have never been more tourists from all over the world here than in that year. It was kind of crazy to see, because we are really nothing; there's nothing special to see or do here at all. :p The whole Floriade thing itself went over my head though, since I think it's just a load of bull...

A Creedence song ;)

Creedence! Always one of the best...

Wow! Someone who probably has heard of Cochranton
Well, one thing where I currently live is known for high levels of radon. We live above a big ole deposit of uranium. When I bought the house I had the radon checked. The EPA sets 0.4 pCi/L as the target level for indoor radon levels. They also set an action level of 4 pCi/L... Anything above that should be remediated. Tested it twice because it came in at 60 pCi/L. Lung cancer here I come. Not really, I had a remediation unit installed.
