The Exorcist. Now 40 years later I decided to watch it again, thinking I'll wonder why it scared me so bad...Still scared the bejeebers outta me after all these years, especially when she crawled backwards down the stairs!!

My favourite horror film, bar none. Every single possession movie I watch is measured against this masterpiece.

I had a similar experience to you. I watched it first as a little kid with my sisters. Scared the living daylights out of me. I didn't watch it again until in my 20s. I wanted to see if it would still have the same effect on me. Stellar example of masculinity that I am, I watched it at home during the day. Living daylights scared, again. Bought the boxed set of all the DVDs some years back. I love this film to no end. Still, it is the one movie I continuously watch and even though I know what's coming with every frame, it still terrifies me.

The House On Haunted Hill with Vincent Price. I remember watching with my Mom when I was 4 or so. We were so scared we wouldn't get off the couch to turn the lights on. When the next-door neighbor knocked on the door, we jumped and screamed. I remember feeling fright combined with excitement. It was fun and one of my favorite memories of my Mom.

Can't believe I never saw this, and I loved watching all the old Vincent Price movies when I was a kid. Must dig this one up, thanks Tery.

I think John Carpenter's Halloween is the first horror movie I can remember that hooked me and completely terrified me...apparently those are one and the same. The Thing remake by John Carpenter in 1982 also scared the living daylights out of me. That one went a long, long way to solidify my love of sci-fi/horror in movies, video games, everything. I watched The Thing with my dad at the drive-in in the very small town I grew up in. I distinctly remember my dad being as engrossed as I was, holding a cup of coffee up to his mouth for about ten minutes hunched over the wheel of our truck we were in. To this day, some 36 years later, my dad will still tell you it's his favorite movie of all time and that he remembers how much he enjoyed seeing it at the drive-in with me. We talked about that movie for weeks afterwards...lol

I was kid in the 80s and teen in the 90s. So I watch a lot of horror shows. Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the dark side, Monsters... Amazing stories had some. Of course the old black and white Addams family and The Munsters. Witch where black and white and more funny. More horror movies when i turn 10

The Ghoul... was the film that started my love of horror movies. I remember watching it on BBC 2 on a Friday night when they showed one sometimes two every week.

What started my love of horror movies was a local TV station’s show called ‘Uncle Ted’s Ghoul School.’ Uncle Ted hosted showings of B horror movies on Friday nights IIRC. Early in Bill O’Reilly’s career he briefly was given the job to write for the show. Uncle Ted and Bill did not get along. One day O’Reilly wrote the opening with Ted arising from a coffin. Ted refused to do it because he was afraid of close spaces. Bill called the station manager who instructed Ted to so the sketch. O’Reilly decided to get even and locked the coffin. The show started with Ted screaming to get out – live on TV, which didn’t happen until after the movie started. Ted stormed off the set and O’Reilly had to fill in. The next week Uncle Ted was back… O’Reilly was gone. I sorta remember that particular show.
