On the Puppies! thread, not_nadine suggested that folks post what names their pups have had. In the spirit of inclusion, I decided to expand it to include all pets because, some of us have had quite creative names for our other critters! So, let's hear it!

I'll start!

Dogs
Princess - dog my mom had when I was born - small black and white border collie who loved to race around and around the outside perimeter of the house when excited. Named because she was the runt of the litter and mom's cousin named her sister, Queenie.

Radar - golden colored mutt with one blue and one brown eye - named after Walter O'Rielly from M.A.S.H.

Sugar - hound dog puppy that someone abandoned who started life as an itty-bitty thing and then grew to be able to put her paws on my 6'2" tall dad's shoulders. Just 'cause she was so sweet.

Foxy - a friend's mutt had puppies and invited me to pick one out. She untied my shoelace and stole my heart. She was a foxy lady!

Csonka - my current pup - he's part beagle, part foxhound and part human. Had two very dark lines on his snout as a pup and looked like a football player. Named after Larry Csonka. He's a Dolphin fan and even has Mr. Larry's autograph!:D

Other pets
Herman the Hamster - world's grouchiest hamster who lived to the ripe old age of six!
D.C. - my mom's cat. Short for D*mn Cat.

Who's next??

Jasmine - A rescued Dalmatian, the kids were into Disney still......
Remy - Also a rescue. He's a big blackmouth cur from Arkansas. Named after The Remdawg Red Sox announcer. He's five going on puppy still. Love him to pieces.........

Cats:

Smelly Nelly - Died early on from a blood disorder. Didn't have her a year...
Sinbad - Black as a pirate flag.........best cat ever. Can't talk about his death
Mittzie - 18 years old now. double paws all around. She's the best mouser ever.
Tazmo - Tazmanian Devil cat with a mohawk. 'Nuff said about her.

Bird:

Larry - We were into the Celtics big time..LOL A lonely love bird we gave a home.

Rabbit:

Radar (see do1you9 post above!!) Had to give him away after my wife got allergic and before I could make a sweater out of him.....

Numerous Toads and Frogs as you all know. And many fish.....gold and otherwise.

And of course Crocoduck. Who is still tracking n_n, Sunny, do1you9, danie and now 80's. He gave up on Spidey and CAT as their climates didn't agree with him.....LOL

I named my first dog 'Rover/' I've always been such a radical.

Now I don't call our pets by the names the womenfolk gave them. I just stay 'Stupid Cat' which fits for any of the three of them (and a few expletives where also thrown in when I stepped on a wet and gross hairball this morning at 5:30 am), 'Stupid Birds,' or 'Stupid Fish.' :)

Current critters
Dusty is our dog. Shih tzu, he was so named because he looked like a furry little dust mop when he was a pup.

Jinx, black manx cat. Because he is black.

Felix, long hair cat. Can't remember why we settled on that name.

Squirt, a turtle. Named after a turtle in Finding Nemo.

Past critters
I have had a Gizmo (Gremlins) cat, Batman (all black) and Joker, (all white) both cats.
Max, all black cat. I like black cats. :)
Shere Khan, cat but I didn't name him. Adopted him from a friend.

Joey and Shep were our dogs growing up. And Boots, a Corgi who had white booties.

The black lab pup my Mom picked out is probably going to be named Brody, after Chief Brody from Jaws.

Last dog was a black lab named Angus The Swift. Named after Angus Young from AC/DC. He was a quick little bugger when he was young so that's where Swift came from. My board name (SwiftDog) came from him. He lived to be 14 and was the smartest dog I've ever had.

Current cat is named Shadow. He's all black with a little white spot on his chest. I call him Shadow Punk because he's a brat. We adopted about 9 months before my Dad passed. We got him to cheer up Dad as he always loved animals.

Cat before that was named Herbie. He was a tuxedo cat. He lived to be 18, the longest of any cat I've had. He was awesome. Used to jump on people from the roof of the house!

Herbie had a brother named Hobbes. He was a grey tiger cat. Named after Calvin's pet tiger. He didn't live as long. Wandered off to die when he was around 5 or so. That cat loved his sweets. He would mug you for blueberry muffins or ice-cream.

Dog before Angus was named Tango, from the movie Tango and Cash. He was the worlds goofiest golden retriever. Sweet but dumb as a post. Also epileptic. He lived to be 10. First and last dog I will ever get from a pet store.

Dog before that was a German Sheperd named Baron. He was a good dog but extremely rebellious. He lived to be about 8 or so.

We had a cat at that time named Chat Che Peau. French for cat in the hat. He was rescue cat. Extremely large and affectionate Angora. Also smelly when he went outside. That cat had the most muscular paws I've seen on a house cat. He ruled the neighborhood with an iron fist!

Had another cat named Psycho Kitty. He was nuts so that's how he got his name. You could play catch with him though. Crumple up a ball of paper and toss it to him. He'd catch it in his paws and then swat it back to you. He only lived to be two. He got feline Leukemia :(

Had another black cat before him named Gremlin. Named after the movie obviously. He wandered of never to return :(

Had another black cat named Nipper. He was around before I was born so I don't know how he got his name.

First dog was a German Sheperd / Collie mix named King. He was a great dog. Was very protective of my sister and I. Not sure how old he was when he passed. My sister smuggled him home when he kept showing up at my Nana's house looking for food.

Never mind the childhood pets - my mom insisted on naming them.

Adult years:

Dog, Rikki. (As in Rikki-Tikki-Tavi) Beagle-ish.
Dog, Natasha. Lab/Setter. She was our Black Russian.
Dog, Bart. (As in Black Bart) Lab-ish.
Cat, George. Yaller cat, quite a fighter, great with the kids.
Cat, Neiko. Japanese for, well, cat.
Dog, Tanka. Ogallala for, well, dog. Blue Heeler. Wasn't happy till we gave her to a rancher.
Dog, Nakaya. Was told it was a Japanese name meaning "black star." Not sure about that, but liked the name, and she was the best dog ever. Chow-ish. We had her from when her eyes were closed. The kids grew up with her, and her death at 14 or 15 broke our hearts. Her ashes are in a box in my office, with her collar on top.
Cat, Kit. Tabby. Bundle of neurotic.
Cat, Runt. Runt grew up. He was about 18 pounds. Yaller cat, quite a fighter, great with the kids. If I believed in reincarnation, I'd think George had returned.
I might be forgetting one or two. They're all gone.
Current dog, Quin. 16 years old, on her last legs.

Grandpa Long live Quin! She's hanging in there - we've never had one live that long. Is she a small dog?

Spideyman I love that you have a dog named Oy!

We both brought a dog into the marriage:
Brandy, the Ogre's terrier mix hated me, bit me with her one tooth many times.
Lucy, the small fluffy dog mix I brought with me - both of them died within 2 years of our marriage, they were very old.
Jezebel - a sheltie/black lab mix, she was precious - only lived 10 years
Husker - a bird dog of some kind, he lived 13 years - he would have made someone a horrible bird dog. Our oldest used to dress him up. He escaped from the house once wearing a dress, hat and earrings. It was so funny. That poor dog.
Ginger - mini doxie - she got a rare disease and died at 4, very very sad
Heidi - sheltie/golden mix - adopted from a shelter - she got lymphoma 2 years after we got her and died shortly after.
Trixie - I call her our miniature wired haired dalmation because that's what she looks like. She's nearly 13 and still quite healthy -she's got diabetes and sometimes has issues, but she's a happy, pampered girl. I'll miss her but I'm hoping to keep her healthy for another 3 years..
RubyJune - she's crazy. She's a black lab/boxer mix. She's 4 and still hasn't gotten out of her puppy stage. She thinks the Ogre is her beloved and will do anything to please him. She sort of talks. She's smart but very high strung. She wears me out. Long live RubyJune.

Cygnus (From a Rush song) Big black Lab

And nothing could resist her long, I bet :)

Fraidy Cat - found in the ditch in front of our house in Monroe, LA. Thought she was a male (I was 3 so I couldn't tell and can't believe nobody else looked). She moved into Nawlins with us and, one day, she led me to the closet and her new babies at which point, we found out her actual gender. We found homes for all before we moved.

Puff - a peek-a-poo. Mom's pet. He lived a long life, about 20 years.
Chip - a ground squirrel I adopted when we dug up her burrow. She tamed down and was pettable. Her lifespan, as a rodent, was about 3 years.
Egore - my grey tabby tom cat who started out as a birthday gift for someone else... who couldn't take him. He didn't come inside much because the parental units refused to pop for neutering him. I don't know what happened to him.
Selket - one of two kittens we got when I moved in with B and our roommate. The other became the roommate's cat, named Bleen (George Carlin joke). Selket moved up here with us and died in 1997, aged 17.
Topaz - ball python. Birthday gift in 1994. She was a sweet baby and I'd take her to my daughter's pre-school to show kids that snakes aren't slimy and awful. She died from digestive system complications. She wouldn't feed which led us to...
Pili - (Swahili for "little") a rat who survived an overnight stay in the snake's realm. I figured that was tough enough so he got named and outlasted the snake! Lived 5 years, a long time for a rat. Very sweet boy.
Wicket - Quaker parrot. Meant to be K's pet but, with her at school all day, guess who Wicket chose? He was adorable and a quick learner. Had quite a vocabulary, after we were told that Quakers don't talk. He had to be re-homed when my health was such that I couldn't care for him anymore.
Willow - tortoiseshell kitty, a Mother's Day gift in 1996. Named for the character in Buffy because 1) she is orange and black and 2) she is sometimes sweet but can turn evil in a split second.
Mimi - (didn't name her) originally my niece's cat, adopted from the street as a kitten. She was passed around between nieces and former sister-in-law which made her very skittish. She was dumped off with my brother-in-law about 6 years ago, confined to the laundry room because my MIL didn't like cats. When I found out, I brought her home. She's still a bit skittish but sweet as can be.

My daughter's horse Shadow and then Karabaska were pets by extension. Now we have 4 alpacas: Rio, Freckles, Freebie and Sunny.

Dogs:
Coco - Dachshund
Rusty - Dachshund
Ginger - Long Hair Dachshund.....Ginger caught the mange from a neighbor kid...yep, the kid not another dog.
Laddie - Collie......Laddie was smart, and learned how to open his fence so he could roam free. One day, a man was jogging through the neighborhood, and Laddie went to run beside him. The man stomped his foot at the dog, so Laddie bit him on the butt. It didn't hurt the man, but tore a hole in his pants. I was seven when that happened......still laugh out loud when I think about it.
Herbie - another Dachshund. She had a litter or two of puppies. We named the puppies Smokey, Bandit, Dixie and Daisy
Smokey - Dachshund/Beagle mix....puppy of Herbie. This became my brother's dog. Smokey liked to squirrel hunt. Didn't need a rifle, Smokey would catch them by the neck and bring them right to my brother.
Prissy - Stray mutt. My brother adopted her and she gave birth to 11 puppies. I was allowed to keep one.
Bear - Puppy of Prissy.....I taught Bear all kinds of tricks. He followed me everywhere I went. When I moved away after high school, Bear became aggressive toward the neighbors, and had to be put down. One night, I woke up late and thought Bear was sitting on my bed. When I called Mom in the morning to tell her about my dream, she told me that the shelter had put him to sleep that day.
Frehley - Black Lab mix.....another stray that my brother adopted. This dog was crazy, so we gave him to my uncle.....my uncle called him Satan because he was a bad influence on his Dobermans, and also enjoyed running his horses.
Hershey - Cocker Spaniel......Hershey was a good dog, but he was kind of dumb. I had a pet hamster that Hershey would sit and watch all day. If you called his name, he would turn his head to look at you, and go right back to watching the hamster.
Thor - Australian Shepherd/Husky mix.....Thor was my brother's dog. I took him in after Mark's accident. Super smart dog. He caught himself a possum one night.....that was pretty funny. When my daughter was learning to walk, Thor would try to herd her and keep her in a small area of the yard.
Pearl - Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix.....she has quite the personality, and keeps us on our toes.

Cats:
Tinker - Siamese. We got Tinker when my brother was two. Mark tackled the poor cat in the hall one morning after breakfast, and he was my brother's cat from that day on.
Smurf: Persian......Stupid lazy cat....and arrogant. He ran away.
TJ - another Siamese. She was Mark's cat, too.....she was funny and had attitude.
Pepper - Kitten of TJ. Mark called me at Easter and said TJ has had her babies, I'll save you the favorite.... He gave me the wildest kitten in the bunch. One day, I heard a loud thumping on the roof. Pepper had climbed the tree and jumped on the roof to chase birds or bugs or something. She made a habit of this every evening for a year. She was black with bright gold eyes, her pupils had red stars around them. Coolest cat I've ever had.
Tyler- a stray kitten that my brother lured to the house. It took him a month to gain the cat's trust and catch him. Mark knew that Mom would have a fit if we brought another animal to the house, so he told her that he found the cat for my birthday.
