I have a dilemma...... My lot is large and sloped, making it fantastic for neighborhood kids to go sledding. None of them have ever asked, they just do it......mostly while I'm at work and there is no school. I know they've been there from the sled marks and footprints, and sometimes they forget their sled when they go home. I don't mind any of that, and swore I'd never be "that" neighbor who chases kids off the lawn.
The problem is that I also live right on the street, and I'm scared to death that one of those kids will be unable to stop the sled and run it into the street under a car. The driveway is sort of in a blind curve, and the slope spills out into the driveway. I've almost been hit several times backing the car out.
I don't even know where the kids live, so I can't really talk to their parents about it unless I just go door to door.

Maybe print up a flier that you could place by front door/mailbox, expressing your safety concerns for the children. Takes time to go door to door. A concern, are you legally responsible for any injuries?
I don't know if I'd be responsible or not, since no one has ever asked me if it's okay. I think I'll call the police dept and see what they say.
after reading that link- how about No Trespassing sign or even No Sledding Allowed?
After reading that, by posting either sign, it is acknowledging the risk and therefore acknowledging your responsibility to said risk. I'd beat the little f'ers senseless before they laid that sled down.

Being rural- we have to post our land, no trespassing, no hunting, no dumping. The local law enforcement will not consider any violations unless posted.
awww, so yes, maybe ask law enforcement in your area Sunny to see what puts you at risk legally. You sure don't want kids hurt, but you shouldn't be held responsible if they get hurt and you weren't there, they didn't ask and were trespassing.

The Sledding Kid. The story follows 12 year old Richard Benjamin as he participates in the game show 'The Sledding Kid' in which contestants, allowed to sled anywhere in North Carolina, are chased by "crazed women with pointy sticks" out to do them in.
Just got off phone with local police station. If I catch the kids, I can call and they'll send an officer out to give them a trespass warning. Otherwise, they can't do anything. They did say that I couldn't be held responsible for injuries because the kids are in fact, trespassing.
Definitely eases my mind. I'd still feel awful if one of them got hurt.
I can't believe any of their parents think it's a good idea to sled there. No barriers to keep a sled from running into the street and possibly into the path of a car.
Good news- let's hope no more issues.
Growing up we sledded on what was dubbed 'Suicide Hill' in my town. It was a very steep road one block down from where I lived. The town blocked it off when it snowed because cars couldn’t go up or down without getting into an accident, and the kids were allowed to go sledding. Lots of injuries and blood on the snow every day. One time I was knocked unconscious and received a concussion after going head first into a brick garage after a kid grabbed the rear runner in hopes of making me crash... It’s what we did as kids. Drawing blood was a daily thing for me. Those were the days... fond memories. I hear they stopped allowing sledding on the hill in the 90’s because of all the injuries.
What's on my mind now? my lack of SK knowledge and I have been reading him 31 years. I am making everyone a promise before the end of 2018, I am going start the DT series. I wanted to see the film, but only one cinema showed it, and I am not convinced it was in Dublin.

Even if you don't do the Dark Tower series there are so many books to choose from, I think you'll enjoy most of what you read!
