So I read the book years ago and I've seen the movie several times. Last October I was in a bad car accident and I wasn't found for almost 24 hours. When I was found I was in a coma with no brain activity and a broken neck witch left me paralyzed from the chest down. I wasn't expected to wake up and have been told by Drs that I'm something they read about in medical journals but most never see. So I don't sleep much just read and watch movies, this morning I watched the Green Mile for the first time since the accident and this lost feeling thats been following around all of sudden turned into something else.
So my question is where did original idea for the story come from, I know about the series but I was wondering where Mr King came up with the idea that planted the seed. I know there's many depression era stories about healers that may or may not have turned into published fiction. Does anyone have information not pulled from Google as to the origin of the story?

Steve explains the genesis of the story idea in the Foreword to The Green Mile. It's a little long, and today is a busy day for me, or I would type it for you here.
