Thank you - I'm still out of sorts from the death of my father some months back. I'm just up and down all the time.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. If it is of any comfort to you, I found that, as time goes by, the ups and downs were replaced with all the great memories I have of my father. Those memories still bring a smile to my face. The pain does lessen, it will
just take some time.

Ceefor ... it's weird, people really do deal with the death of a family member in different ways, so I can't really guess how you'll feel six months or a year from now, I hope, though, that you'll be able to comfort others and receive enough comfort in return yourself to make it through.......

So, folks, it's been a while what with one thing and another.
I'm OK. The only interesting thing I have to report is that our downstairs got flooded - only to a depth of about an inch, but flooded front to back regardless - during a particularly ferocious thunderstorm a couple of weeks back. It caused a couple of grand's worth of damage: the laminate flooring has had to be ripped up and will be replaced once everything's dry; ditto for the floor covering in the kitchen; we lost a few rugs and the hall carpet. Thankfully we're insured and there was no quibble about the claim, so it's really more a pain in the backside than a massive problem (that'll probably come when the price of the policy suddenly gets hiked).

Anyway, fingers crossed I'll be around a bit more again.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Thankful insurance will cover and that all are safe. Good to see you back on SKMB.

Glad to hear no one got hurt - just think how nice it will be once everything is replaced! Thank goodness for insurance.

Tbh the flood was nothing compared to what some folks get and was never going to hurt anyone, not unless we slipped and went A over T. Thanks to the insurance, it's more a massive inconvenience than anything.
Nor should flooding become a regular danger. It only happened because we had a month's worth of rain (55mm) fall in the space of an hour, and that went on for three solid hours. I've never known rain like it in this country. In intensity maybe, once or twice, but not in duration. Nowhere near. Downpours like that usually last for 5-10 minutes, tops, then ease off. This was just relentless.
It wouldn't have happened either if local residents had been listened to and a drainage channel installed when the local authority gave permission for a block of flats to be developed on a patch of open ground immediately opposite. Neither authority nor the developers wanted to take responsibility for sorting it out, so it's led to some minor drainage issues out on the public path.
Now it's affected the houses - specifically ours - I've been looking into whether we can sue them or not, and whether there is anything we can do collectively to force either or both of them to take action and get it sorted out, once and for all.

Connor B asked me to let everyone know that he will be absent for a while as his grandmother's health is failing and her passing may be imminent. He'll be back as soon as he has had time to process all of this but wanted to make sure no one was worrying about him while he was away from the Board.

(((((Connor B))))) - that was very considerate of him to do so.
