I like the remake of the House on Haunted hill. I saw both I thought the new one was better. I like both dawn of the dead movies. Thou My husband only like the new one. The hills have eyes is one where I like both.

House on Haunted Hill was indeed quite good. And then they also remade William Castle's Thirteen Ghosts, which is also quite good.
I could never see what was so special about the Dawn of the Dead remake, but it is one of the best received horror-remakes for some reason.

John Carpenters "The Thing" is the kind of remakes they should teach in film school.

It seems the best remakes are not so much a remake, but a complete reinvention of the original.

People complain about remakes, which is understandable since a lot are uninspired and done for purely money, but it is done since the beginning of film pretty much. And sometimes they were remade by the same people: between 1915 and 1920 Paul Wegener had done three versions of Der Golem - but there was clearly progression here, as the third is seen as the best.
