Most of my higher end or books that I like I have in some type of protection . For example I have a first edition of cujo. Probably 30 to 40 dollar value, but it looks like I just picked it up off the shelf. I put a mylar cover on it. I always use mylar bc u can still see the dust jacket. The only time I use a slipcase is when it comes with the book. I even make my own book covers like we did in high school to protect some . Temporary until I can get a mylar cover on it.

What do u guys and gals do for ur books and why . I only use the 3 methods above. Interested in what u use or any different protection methods.

Wow, you went there. I am so proud of you!!! ;-D Back to the question- I use Brodart type covers. They have several and I have wasted some money on trying to find the right ones. I ordered ones a while back that after being on the books for a few months started to get a ripple effect on them, plus they felt like they had some kind of a slime/stickiness to them? It wasn't drastically noticeable, but I didn't like it. So, I use Brodart #10-409-104 for the hardcovers.

Hey. Someone throws that out and a person has to do it. You can't just let it lie there.

TWSS.

Yes, you are the one who helped me with my Brodarts.

Is Brodart similar to a mylar cover. Is it clear so u can still see dust jacket. I really didn't become a book fanatic till about 3 years ago or so when I read my first king book 11/22/63 so forgive for my knowledge of not knowing brodarts. It sounds better quality than mylar from the posts. Ty for the info. Most appreciated.

Yes, they are clear. Kingricefan gave you the code to the best basic Brodart to use. They work great.

I also used mylar when I first started collecting books, but it became too expensive and too much trouble. I switched over to the 'Brodart' type covers. I recommend that you sign up for their Brodart emailing list then wait till they send you a coupon for 15-20% off your order.

a simple plastic cover is my weapon to keep the book covers safe, even the hardbound, my style is as same as what my school did in their hard bounds, the difference is, the middle (where the bind was) was folded inside the dust jacket so it could protect the jacket from any wet disaster.
also it was adjustable (as same as how the plastic covers of the spiral notebooks that i brought works) so the jacket wouldn't completely destroyed by numerous folding
