Obviously everyone here is a King fan but, who else do you really dig?
For me, it's Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. LeGuinn, Poul Anderson, Greg Bear, Michael Chricton, Tom Robbins, Tolkein, George MacDonald, Charles Williams, Robert Jordan, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., John Steinbeck, and even some Tom Clancy and Dean Koontz. That last may be blasphemy here so fire away if you feel the need.
I guess it's fairly clear that I'm kinda heavy on the sci-fi side but, I do enjoy good satire, military fiction, and some good drama, history, and biographies here and there. I could keep listing more good authors for awhile but I suppose those will suffice to represent my overall tastes.
So, tell me what you dig! Turn some people on to new stuff! :)

I'm not nearly as well read as most on this board; nevertheless, these are a few of mine...

CSLewis (The Great Divorce, The Space Trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia)
William Goldman (everything)
Michael Crichton (Sphere, Prey, State of Fear)
Kurt Vonnegut (The Sirens of Titan, Cat's Cradle, Welcome to the Monkey House)
Dean Koontz (False Memory, The Taking, Midnight, Lightning, The Bad Place, Odd Thomas)

Very nice! You definitely enjoy your classics I see. I've only read Mystery and one other by Peter Straub. I enjoyed both a lot. Who is Emma? A daughter, wife, sister?

You picked out my two favorites by Koontz. Lighting is a very strong book for him and Odd Thomas may be his most likeable character in my opinion.

In addition to SK, my favorites are: Fannie Flagg & Anne Rice (like my friend kingricefan ), Marian Keyes, Anne Tyler, sometimes Anita Shreeve, Eudora Welty. Short story collections with a smattering of different authors and genres are really my most favorite. I try to get the Best American Short Stories, O'Henry Prize Stories, and publications like Glimmer Train every year. It's so exciting for me to find a new anthology.

Anyone read any Tana French? She writes psychological crime thriller stuff. Her first, In the Woods is pretty good and the only other of hers I've read Faithful Place was also good but not quite up to par with her first.
I'm also fond of Kathy Reich's books and I enjoy the show too.

Several people have tried to turn me on to the Discworld series. It sounds cool. I've dug what little Palahniuk I've read, Rant, Haunted, and something else. Image comics has a Fight Club sequel series running. I've only read #1 which was mostly recap of the book. Interesting and good art work.

Tana French is an interesting writer. I've enjoyed her books (aside from her latest, which I haven't yet read).

Besides SK, I enjoy Joe Hill, Gillian Flynn, Jodi Picoult. Right now J.K. Rowling (I'm rereading the Harry Potter series, didn't enjoy her works under the pseudonym). Sometimes I get in the mood for something that doesn't require me to think a lot and read Jennifer Weiner, Lisa Scottoline, John Grisham, etc.
I'll read any author if the plot sounds good. Genres that I don't care for: Romance, Western, and my least favorite "cozy" mysteries.

I love Raymond Chandler. He wrote, what? Seven Marlowe novels, but I can read em over and over. Mystery? Who gives a damn.? Lemme hear that snide talk.

Kerouac. Oh sure, hate em all day you want. People always have, they always will. I hate having to always justify my love of Ti Jean, dammit. Just deal with it, college boy.

Hunter Thompson was the greatest American that ever lived.

A million others. All the pulp cats. Beats. Seventies trash. Splatter punk. Dickens. Studs Terkel. Whataya got?
