Okay so question...and its one I was conversing with a friend of mine.

Don't worry this isn't strictly a DT question.

We all of course read and write for the story and characters, the emotions. THE GOOD STUFF and not mindless violence...well when there is no reason to care behind it.

But this just was a weird topic that came up.

Its a very pointless question but we need it answered. Is there any human character in the works of Stephen King that can take Roland (at his best-not sick, well fed and not missing fingers) in a head on fist fight? No magic or psychic powers or any of that. Not a gun fight either obviously as I'm well convinced Roland might be unbeatable then.

So simple question

In a straight up street fight (in say a bar) can any other human King character beat Roland?

Nobody. No one. King wrote about this in the last book I believe - when Susannah and Roland we're trying to survive out in the wilderness. She kept thinking how for everything they'd been through, she had never seen Roland hit rock bottom, and wondered just what it would take to break him. Roland is our rock: immovable, unshakeable, impervious to the forces of nature or any otherworldy creature. Sorry to go on so long about this, but MY Gunslinger bows for nothing and no one!

Yep. Unbowed, unbent, unbroken (to steal a tagline from Game of Thrones).

...and I can't vote for the slobbery old St. Bernard-since you said "human".....

I don't know.

I think most people....could take Cujo. If you eliminate Tad from the situation anyway. All you'd have to do is kill a very angry St Bernard or break its leg (not friendly imagery but just thinking of how to get out alive)and then get shots so ya dont get rabies, right? I think most people could survive that scenario.

Be they Roland or one of us.

Course I haven't read Cujo...seen the movie and I know its implied he was more then just a normal rabid dog but just playing devil's advocate here.

lol I'd say run but you wouldn't get very far if you didn't hurt, kill or trap him.

Cort hooked him up for most of his life, until he became a full fledged gunslinger..that was a great fight. Most of us mortals wouldn't stand much of a chance, but how about Wolf? He was semi human, right?Does he count? And let's not forget John Coffey, properly motivated,he could probably turn Roland into a grease stain on the carpet..

Hmmmm

Wolf can't count.

The rule was no special abilities or powers or magic or psychics. You need to be a normal mortal either from our world or mid world or any other parallel world King has created and if you have any form of power such as the shine or telekinesis they'd be turned off in this fight.

Just a normal street fight in a normal bar against Roland.

No guns or knives either of course.

But I'd say picking up whatever would be close is fine such as stools, beer bottles, pool cues etc.
