I bought The Gunslinger in 1987 and promptly lost interest. I was looking for the next It or The Stand. Then, for whatever reason, I picked up a new copy of it in 2011 and spent 2 years reading the entire series. I'm kind of glad I waited to read it though. Waiting for the next in the series over the course of 20+ years would have killed me. My favorite was Wolves of the Calla, my least favorite was Song of Susannah. But even my least favorite was still pretty good. I loved the ending of the series. It was everything I wanted it to be.

DotT was the first one I read, and I couldn't get enough. I'd never read anything quite like it! I still have my original trade PB copy--babying it along and hoping it will hold out a few more years. I thought about replacing it last year, and my kids reacted with horror--it's like a family member :D All of them have vivid childhood memories of poring over the illustrations in that book, even before they could read. Every time I pull it out (about once a year or so), the three oldest end up gathering around, flipping through it and reminiscing about who scared whom with which picture and how hard it made one laugh and how long it was before the other slept well--lol. I had no idea they did that to each other!
