So we know a movie/mini-series is in the works. Who would you cast?

Jake Epping: Leonardo DiCaprio - Great actor, he would nail this role.
Al Templeton: Bryan Cranston - He can play a likeable, quirky character.
Frank Dunning: Walton Goggins (Boyd Crowder from Justified) - He plays villain roles well.
Harry Dunning: Robin Williams - May have too much of a presence, but he can be very likeable and he's a great actor.
Deke: Tommy Lee Jones - I pictured a folksy cowboy type. Jones's performance from Space Cowboys would be perfect.
Mimi: Frances McDormand - Likeable and easy to sympathize with.
Sadie Dunhill: Natalie Portman - I picture Sadie as insecure woman who finds herself. Portman can do that well.
Ellen: Lily Tomlin - I imagined someone who was a bit like a prosecutor. Tomlin definitely fits that build.

I had a hard time picking an actor for Oswald. I couldn't think of many actors in their early 20's who would fit.

Jake - Joseph Gordon-Levitt (in glasses, I think.)

Sadie - Alexis Bledel (she needs to audition though. Rigorously. If she can be as good as she was when she was Rory Gilmore, she's in; if it feels as lazy as all her post-GG work we'll go with Amy Acker (might be a little too old) or Alison Brie. [I swear I wasn't trying to only cast "A" names.]

Lee Harvey - Daniel Radcliffe or Fran Kranz

Marina Oswald - Alona Tal or Sarah Hyland (from Modern Family, might look too young, but is Marina's actual age from the time period.)

Al Templeton - Bruce Campbell, Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, or Hugh Laurie. Any of them would be such a good time.

Now that you mention Joe, I think he would make a great Oswald instead of Jake

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
As I have said recently in another post, I don't know anyone in the acting world any more, whenever I watch the green mile I can't help but think Doug Hutchison (Percy) would have made a great Oswald, but that was nearly 15 years ago, I know he looks alot younger than he is but I don't think even he could pull it off now.

The only person I would be able to cast would be the small bit-part of Oswalds Mom - Kathy Bates, it has to be, it wouldn't be a King classic without her.

I hear you on that one, but I just think he'd make such a great Jake. I keep thinking of him doing the test run

stopping the first murder
and that just seems like such a JGL leading man sequence to me.

I can think of someone who would be perfect in a cameo appearance.

I picture a woman like Uma Therman as Sadie, she is so lanky and a bit clumsy look. Tim Robbins would have made a good Jake, they may both be getting a bit old though; I guess if they were younger. Jim Parsons could be good as Jake too. Al Templeton I see Vinncent pastore.

I love Vinncent Pastore. Loved him as Big P***y Bonpensiero on the Sopranos. I don't see him as Al, though. I see him as either the cribbage guy or one of the goons that beats up Jake.

Personally, I'd like to see no-names get the roles. King writes about ordinary people in extraordinary situations. I think big-name celebrities would detract from the production. Might take you out of the movie.
It's a good point, but with that said, I don't think Tom Hanks' performance in the Green Mile hurt the film, story, or my watching experience.

However, usualy SK films are pretty low budget so this no doubt has the biggest say.

I think he's been getting better offers now for bigger budget projects since Hollywood loves adapting other people's stories. If it is a mini-series, we see television actors. If it's a feature film, then we're more likely to see movie stars. I hope they make it a mini-series so they tell the whole story!
