After reading the final scene my questions are
Why did Jake introduce himself as George and not Jake? And why did he ask Sadie who shapped the high school dance with her, or make comment about her endearing qualities, if the dance was going to be their final encounter?

As for the first question, Sadie had known him as George. The card man's dialogue revealed that each time line is not erased and that each is permanent. I took that to mean that, on some level, Sadie would remember Jake. I remember she had a sense of their alternate past with him. Sadie not getting married was another hint that she was meant for Jake.

I like your thoughts, although after he told her his name was Jake, she stopped calling him George, unless they were in public.

I've left it for a couple of weeks before reading the ending again. No where near emotional and could think about things a little better.
I was paying too much attention to the 're-set', assuming that Sadie would never have known Jake. I didn't listen to the yellow card man well enough and forgot to consider the residue. Therefore Sadie would have some 'inkling' of Jake, even though they had never met in this reality.
Thanks for encouraging me to have another look.

Sadie most certainly would have remembered Jake on some level... and with that said, upon reading this thread, I am fighting back the sniffles. The end of 11/22/63 made me cry like a little kid. Most emotional ending to a novel ever.

I agree, Sadie even thought she knew him from somewhere. Jake gave hints, I think just to test the waters. I do hope they became friends.

I only finished my first read yesterday and the emotions haven't subsided yet. Not experienced this from a novel before. Yes I have enjoyed books, yes I have felt a loss after finishing several but this... I'm back down the rabbit hole already because I can't image what could even hope to follow this one.

It's one of the reasons I think 11/22/63 will be remembered as his masterpiece. It will be impossible, IMO, for him ever to top it.
