Well x 3

Longtime reader, first time post- er.

I'd call myself closer to a constant reader, even though I usually wait a year or two before reading all of the recently released SK books in a single weekend. Then I do it again.

For every ounce of unconscionable evil we see in the pages of SK, we glance across the cosmic scale to see a hero or force rising up to balance it. That is why I continue to read.

Welcome to the board DerekD26.

If I were to sum up why I read SK with any one reason, it would have to be the quality of the writing. His work varies, in spite of the critics who think all he writes is horror. His library spans from Horror to science fiction to fantasy to, more recently, crime novels. But no matter the content, it always has the King trademark of strong, well developed characters with a unique style of dialogue that's exclusive to a King story.

I continue to be drawn to Mr. King's stories because he continues to write characters that feel real; they act and react as ordinary people are wont to do, even in extraordinary circumstances. His writing never reads as 'writerly'--he's not trying to impress the reader with fine phrasing or elevated vocabulary (though he has both, of course). He seems content to sit you down by the fire, hunker down next to you and begin: "Once this happened..."

SK is one of my painkillers & SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor aka anti-depressant).
His stories have kept me going when the going got tough.
And I'm counting on him to stick with me til the end.

His characters jump off the page and into your heart & mind.
He writes quotable dialogue.
He gets inside you.
He's an addiction (a good one, like Haagen-Dazs strawberry cheesecake flavour)

Just the fact that he's out there, makes the world a better place.
Writers are supposed to change the world, aren't they?
Job done, SK.
