The original show gave rise to , Star Trek the Animated Series which was essentially continuation of the original show, Star Trek The Next Generation , Deep Space Nine , Voyager , Enterprise and soon a new series Discovery . And there are 14 Star Trek feature films and counting. There area also novels , comic books , StarTrek Games act.

I don't the answer to that. I think it appealed to peoples idea of a good future. For once it wasn't a dystopian vision, yet more serious than the Jetsons. Also it was brand spanking different from what was on TV at the time. My mother was one of the first Star Trek nerds. My brothers still are and they are into all the off shoots. While I'm not really a fan it does give me a great sense of nostalgia.

...it was and is a show that takes us away from this planet and in some way makes us feel that we have risen above our base nature, that the nobility of man hasn't disappeared.....that and the gizmos are pretty damn cool.....loved the use of everyday items to make futuristic tools....

The original broke ground in many aspects with television. The others modernized and followed the path.
Space: The final frontier
These are the voyages of the Starship, Enterprise
Its 5 year mission
To explore strange new worlds
To seek out new life and new civilizations
To boldly go where no man has gone before

It shows us what we can be. A world united, in a universe where there's no war, no poverty, no hopelessness. I think people respond to that.

When it comes to Utopia , Im skeptical of our chances of achieving it . But that said, It would be good outcome for humanity.

lol... I remember watching some kind of documentary about the making of Star Trek and they said Giordi's visor was a banana clip. I hadn't recognized it as a banana clip until they said it was. I wonder if any other common household items were modified to use as futuristic technical gadgets.

I love Star Trek
Watched TOS as a kid, and just thought "Wow, Spacecrafts etc."
But Star Trek is so much more and often, it was Ground Breaking
It holds up a Mirror to the society.

Mankind gave up their Egoism, their Greed

And Star Trek prompts Questions:
Are We the Culture with the best of Ethics?

Star Trek is an Utopia but it isn't Impossible.
