Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

His children didn't read all his books. Owen said around the time they were promoting Sleeping Beauties that he never had read The Shining until recently.
He's not really the type of writer who writes for his children primarily I think, the way some writers start. Maybe some of his books, like Eyes of the Dragon, but not the majority I think.
I heard they helped proofread some of his books but I guess since the Shining was earlier in his career it makes more sense

His debut novel opened with naked teenage girls in a shower. If anything, he's toned down the sex stuff if you ask me.
:D

I'm aware that Carrie has a strong sexual element, but as I said: in his later work I find the sex more gratuitous - in Carrie it serves a clear function. And as I explained it's not sex scenes or nudity per se, it's more that he tends to approach things much more from a sexual angle: comparing things to sex, references to sex. Doctor Sleep is a clear example: not only are the True Knot watching porn to confuse Abra, but Dan is aware that he may come across as a paedophile in contacting the girl. And then there is the scene early on with Hallorann's grandfather coming back from the dead and lying on the boy's bed naked inviting him for sex.
It's just that he drags in sex much more when it isn't really necessary or makes for strong plot points. In his later works I feel that I come across sexual references much more often than in his earlier ones.
Maybe not everyone is that aware of it, but I find it very noticeable. And I've seen others comment on it too.

I hear what you're saying. I'm not offended by it at all either as long as it is a vital part of the plot or story.

I've said this a bazillion times on here, but if sex is thrown in just for shock value, I think the author failed. But, I'm not sure I've noticed Stephen has increased the bumpachickabowbow in his stories.

Oh DJ . . .bumpachickabowbow I can hear you now . . . . bumpachickabowbow . . .I could really run with this but I'll stop!

For the films they tend to take it all out. None of the sexual scenes from Dr. Sleep were in the film (as I expected), although Dan still commented that it could pose a problem if he was seen with a teenage girl. I wonder why they changed the location where they met to Frazier instead of Anniston. But so much was changed from the book, even apart from the finale. I actually expected Flanagan to stay closer to the book. I still loved the movie though - I only watched the director's cut so far.
I also expected them to change the scene where Abra turns into a Daenerys-like warrior princess, and they did. It was beautifully visualized though how Rose floats above the world to her house.
And you never actually see Dan guiding someone who is dying, which is strange because that's where the title comes from.

Isn't the phrase Red Rum strange in a way? Because Jack doesn't drink rum, he drinks whiskey. If he was Jack Sparrow it would make sense, but he's Jack Torrance.

I don't see how that's connected...

My point is that I don't get why they're watching porn as a kind of diversion technique. It's just so bizarre, and bizarre in a silly way, not a good way.
They were trying to disturb her (that is just the way I see it) or perhaps he was illustrating just how terrible/evil the True Knot was.

But it couldn't disturb her, because she was just too young to really understand it. The images just seemed odd to her, they had no real effect on her. Why would they think it would disturb her?
