The first sixty odd pages of Salem's Lot is the scariest reading I have ever come across. Why? That's a good question and hard to answer. I last read Salem's Lot about four years ago. There is a sense of dread and confusion and you know it's coming. Also, the central character is very well written and easy to identify with. Salem's Lot is my favorite Stephen King book if not my favorite book ever. I hope they make the movie the way I think it should be made. I didn't mind the original movie. I don't mind Pet Sematary Two as well. I can't remember the name of King's short story that is related to the novel, about the soldier that comes back from war and he gets buried. I love that short story as well.

I think you’re thinking of an excerpt from the novel that was used in a collection. I think the excerpt was called, “The Return of Timmy Baterman”

Do you mean "Jerusalem's Lot" from Night Shift?

Blake Are you talking about a story relating to Pet Sematary or 'Salem's Lot?

Yeah, it's in the Giant/Mammoth book of Zombies, but I thought King wrote that short story as a stand-alone piece. There's an introduction by the editor, I think your'e right and they took it straight out of the novel. I thought King wrote a short-story though that was sought of an off-shoot from Pet Sematary.

It works well as it’s own story, doesn’t require any background context really

I meant Pet Sematary. I think I said Salem's Lot because I was watching Blade Runner last night and subconsciously linked Rutger Hauer with Salem's Lot. Pet Sematary is my favourite King book. I remember exactly back in 1983 where and why I bought the book. I was doing my HSC again at Sydney Technical College and there was a guy in my class an Macedonian Australian, and we were talking about Salem's Lot, the series, and then we said about King's new book coming out and after class I went to the book store.
