Will the Talisman 3 ever happen?

Until they find a time that works for both of them, they're not going to be writing it. They aren't going to drop projects they're working on just to take up writing Talisman 3 as they wouldn't want to lose the flow of their work.

But didn't Black House do real bad? Stephen said it was a book that 'didn't happen'. I don't know if it's the same for books as for films: when a book performs real bad does that diminish the chances of another one coming in a series?

Sometimes it also has to do with the publisher. Dean Koontz hasn't finished one of his series fans are asking for, because the publisher didn't like the earlier books.

I know, and they even brought in Steve to fix that mess of a debut season and they basically decided to ignore everything in season three! What? Best episode was the debut of the following season which Steve wrote.

It was real strange what they did in season 3. It's like they hired Marg Helgenberger to reprise her role in Tommyknockers.
I thought visually it was one of the best looking SK tv projects, too bad about the writing.

A lot of people forget that Brian K. Vaughn created the show, wrote the debut episode, then just seems to abandon the project altogether, as though he got fed up of it, they brought in different showrunners for the final season and even set up what would have been the fourth season, but of course it got cancelled. Such a weird idea, turning UTD into a series, should have been an event thing.

It didn't help that the release date for Black House was right around 9-11. I don't think their publisher would worry about doing a third book, though, especially after all this time has passed and knowing that fans have asked about a third one.

I just don't get what they could have done in the fourth season. They totally set it up at the end. But are they just gonna repeat what happened in Chester's Mill in another town; how could it be interesting to see the same once more? Or what could they do different? The essence of the show is a town under a dome, and we've already seen that in the first three seasons.

Same thing happenned to a YES album, came out in the same week as Black House I think, boom, did nothing. But surely The Talisman was enough of a success to warrent returning to a more fantasy inspired third book, like you said?

It should have been a mini-series, simple as that. Or a film, in fact, an UTD film would be great, I think.

I overheard 2 youngsters talking about this during a Wiggles concert I attended (boy...they sure watch you closely when you go without kids). They said it would be available to the public in November 2021 and will simply be called 'The White'.
Are you back on that Canadian beer again, Mal? :)

I honestly don't know what Peter's idea is for the third book, just that Steve thinks it's a really good one so could be fantasy or a continuation of the Black House plot.

Probably will be a fantasy inspired plot.

Especially with what happens to Jack at the end, having to stay in The Territories, although, I got the idea that he was supposed to play a role with regards to Roland's final part of his journey, but it never happenned.

Also, you'll have something to ask Peter next time you meet him. :)

Peter's on Twitter. In the past he always answered all my questions. Not sure if he still does that though, more and more people get on Twitter all the time of course, but most writers have always answered my questions.

Although this is about something that may or may not happen of course, so it's likely he won't say anything until an official announcement is made. When someone suggested a third Talisman when Peter reacted to Stephen who had just joined Twitter, Peter said 'Now, now, hold your horses!'

Seriously, what's incredible is that Stephen King has any free time, because from the Constant Reader perspective, it's looks like he's not only writing a couple of hours per day and that's all. Adaptations, contracts, proposals, interviews, mails, calls...

Regarding The Talisman 3, both Stephen King and Peter Straub hinted about the main topic the book will be about. Just in case:

SPOILER ** IDEAS THAT KING AND STRAUB SHARED ABOUT THE TALISMAN 3****

*
*
Stephen mentioned he had a scrapbook about the Charles Starkweather y Caril Ann Fugate crimes in the fifties and that that case will be the main topic of the book.

END OF SPOILERS

And YES, of all the stories I'd like King to complete, The Plant is one of them, but it's not on the top. That place is reserved for THE BATTLE OF JERICHO HILL.
Sorry, Marsha! You probably get a lot of inquires about it as well. :D
