This is such an utterly seductive story and therein lies its brilliance.
Rewrite your life at a click.

Would I delete my illness and disability?
No.
Not because I'd miss it, but because something else would sneak in to fill the void.
That "something else" is really scary.

Maybe (just maybe), this is the way it was supposed to be, for me.
Why?
I don't know and that's OK.

I think you're pretty cool, rudiroo.

And Gerald's Game and Misery...

I've read those.... I was pretty good at keeping up with SK's releases for a long long time, then, for whatever reason, stopped.... right around the time of the release of The Green Mile "series". I have a lot of catching up to do ... I see the story you originally referenced is a short/novella?

Yes, it's found in the volume Just After Sunset.

Oh hell.

I finished "Word processor of the gods" last night before i went to bad. It was a mistake, because i was thinking about it for an hour at least.
I think it was too short, because i really loved it.
When the thing started to smoke and stuff, i got really nervous because i knew that the end is close haha.
I don`t think i can find the right words to explain how awesome this was. Really, really liked it.

This one had the feel of an old Twilight Zone episode (a compliment).
I kept waiting for the shoe to fall on a guy who would effectively use a computer to erase his wife and kid but at the same time he was a bit sympathetic. So it was difficult to say which way you wanted it to end.

I think that you wind up where you are supposed to be. There is a Dean Koontz book called Lightening that stresses if something is supposed to happen to you it will happen. If you try to avoid the time and place whatever is supposed to befall you will find another way.

It did feel like a Twilight Zone episode. I liked the ending. It felt like it ended where it was supposed to.

It did feel like a Twilight Zone episode. I liked the ending. It felt like it ended where it was supposed to.

This actually was an episode of Tales From the Dark Side first broadcast November 25, 1984, as part of season one.

It’s a great short story. And there is a bit of a twist on this type of wish fulfillment narrative despite the foreshadowing that it will not go well. The neighbor Mr. Nordoff warns Hagstrom to be careful leading the reader to believe that we are heading towards a Monkey Paw ending.

I think it's more than likely the good will that Richard and Jon bring up in the reader that turns the story around and give us an out right happy ending a true rarity in a King short story.
