I know his mother passed around the release of Carrie, but I'm noticing an "orphan" (orphant) theme. It may just be something to tie together the stories of If It Bleeds. I can't help but wonder and worry... has his father recently passed? I'm just a bit worried, and want to make sure he's doing alright. I know that there is plenty more that would make the average person worry about his sanity and wellbeing, but I feel like this trending theme of orphans may actually be cause for concern.

Welcome to the Board!

His father walked out on his family when Stephen was two years old and he and his brother were raised by their mother, who remained single until she died. He never saw his father again. There's nothing deeper to be worried about with his mental health and the mention of orphans in his stories, though, as this is all ancient history as far as that goes. :)

I do not think he has had any contact with his father since he was a toddler and his dad did the "Go out for cigarettes and never come back" thing.

Jesus H Christ, I haven't logged on to this forum in a while and the first thing I see is the headline of your post and my heart skipped a beat!

I'm so relieved that it's just concerning his state of mind. Speaking for myself, I love Steve's mind exactly how it is.

Welcome to the SKMB! :D

....his well of personal experience is a deep one, and one that he draws from in damn near every story.....is not obsession or depression, simply fleshing out characters with real life issues......
