Over the holidays one of the SK FB groups I'm a part of had a bit of a controversy when someone remarked that sai King does not, in fact, like to be called "sai" King. That he's actually gone on record as stating this.

I've never seen such a remark from him and know that "sai" is a term of respect in the DT universe, so fans are just trying to honor him by using it. I knew I could get the real story from my fellow residents of the SKMB, however. What say you?

I can see how that might be a little awkward, like, when Leonard Nimoy was Spock and people would go up to him with the vulcan hand sign and say live long and prosper.. or the lady that went nutzo in the bookstore, screaming out cockadoodie this and that doing the kathy bates imitation. I mean, thanks for a being a fan and all that, but take a chill pill please.. probably not the same as seeing it written down like here in this venue where everyone gets the reference, but out in public, can see it being a bit uncomfortable..

Wasn’t the Kathy Bates thing was a publicity stunt for a local Misery play adaptation performance

If you were to say Sai-King to the actual King, he would likely take it as a respectful gesture, he's very grateful to his fans, without which, he wouldn't be able to do what he loves. I would be disappointed with Steve if he acted in any other way. The fans are everything.

I think a little bit of fans would be nice but a lot of fans would suck. Who in their right mind wants all that unwanted attention when out in public and just trying to live a private life?

....I have no idea if this was ever said or not.....however, I could see Unca Steve being a bit fed up with the whole "Sai" bit(just like "Unca").....sure it's respectful, but in the fictional world....I truly understand why folks would do so, but I tend to treat those that I have met who are "celebrities", as the human beings they are....they are people, just like us at their core.....would I be wingnut silly if I had the chance to speak to Steve?....inside yes, but outwardly it would be a handshake and a simple "thank you"........THEN, I would pop the kitchen tour question.....dambetcha......

I’d be to nervous to say anything to the Man in greeting him to be honest. Not very good is Out of Order in this regard. I think I could manage to put my beer down and shake hands though...
I would probably say something stupid (and obvious) like: "Holy Shiit you're tall!"
(When I spoke to Marsha on the phone years ago, I said "Oh wow, I forgot that you're American." )

This isn't meant to be disrespectful and I'm not singling you out Scott, but if I'm remembering correctly Steve does not like to be called 'Uncle Steve'. I think there was an entire thread dedicated to this a while back (years) that got quite heated at times, as folks thought it would be alright to just go ahead and call him 'Uncle' when he specifically said he didn't like it. I would feel awkward calling him 'Mister King' as I always hoped when I met him I would just say something like 'Yo, Steve, thanks for all the wonderful tales.' And maybe ask that burning question: Boxers or briefs........:p
