Hi there! I'm Dieyson (you can read it like you read Jason) and I have a question (which I hope Stephen King could reply someday).

So, I'm a big fan of King's works and my favorite one is The Dark Tower series, because I identified myself with it in a way I can't even explain (aside of the epic story told in the books, of course).

I kinda tried to write a few books, but I stopped in the middle of the stories. But after I met Stephen King, I found new inspirations from everything and started writing new stories until I finally wrote something I really liked. This story takes place in a world between the middle age and the contemporaneous age. It's full of assassins, magic and hidden high technology along the way.

AND I'd like to pay a tribute to Stephen King for the inspiration he provided me, by mentioning his work in my book. I thought about mentioning North Central Positronics as the developer of the high-tech stuff. I hope someday to publish my book and maybe Master King could see it.

Anyway, I'd like to thank him for all the lessons and inspiration he gave me with his works.

Stephen King, thankee for being so awesome.

It would depend upon how extensively you wanted to use the reference. If it's just a mention but you're not expanding upon it, it would "probably" be okay but better to check with us first by sending the page/s in which it's mentioned and the page before/after so it can be seen in context.

Long days and pleasant nights, folks. I'd like to thank all of you for the advices and for wishing me luck. I'm really involved with this book I'm writing, but I made some cuts and kinda put the magical part almost completely aside. Only a few discreet things about telekinesis, or so. But the assassins and the steampunk environment gained strenght and some of my friends who are following my characters in their journey are giving me aweseome and constructive feedbacks. Also, two local book producers got interested in my story and it all makes me want to write more and more.

About the mentions of Stephen's works, I've put NCP aside and only mentioned the expression "Long days and pleasant nights", Stephen's initials and the Dark Tower book (one of my characters, who loves to read bookshave read it at some point, and that's how I mentioned SK works). Anyways, when I'm finished with the book and the producer is finished with the reviews and edits, I'll check with King's staff and J.K. Rowling's ('cause I named a street in the book after her).

I hope someday you can read my book which I haven't decided what to call it yet, but for now it's named "Vortex/Children of the Silence", So if you see any book with this name with the thematics I mentioned above, maybe it's my book.

Thankee, sai Ms. Mod, sai FlakeNoir and sai Bryan!

That raises a question of whether Mr. King does that as well. For instance, did he check with Lee Child before giving Jack Reacher a cameo in Under the Dome?

Not that I'm aware of but in that case it wasn't using the character Lee Child created and there can be many people with the same names. For those who know of the Jack Reacher character it was an easter egg but for those who didn't, the reference would have gone over their heads. For the record, though, Lee Child had no problem with it. :smile2:

I would imagine that if you had to worry about that kind of stuff all the time, you'd go crazy. That, or only write fantasy and period pieces to avoid all that mess! Thanks, Ms. Mod!

Welcome - and what a username! :D
Thanks for the Welcome, haha.

And, believe it or not, my username is my actual name. Dieyson. You can read it like "Jason".
And, once more, thank you all for the advices. By now, my book has 247 pages, 114 thousand words and counting!

I'll keep you up to date when I'm finished, plus I'll send the pages I mentioned The Dark Tower (as I said, I only mentioned it as a book one of my characters read).

Long days and pleasant nights, folks!
