Constant Readers are a rare breed, unique among readers of horror. It occurred to me to try todescribe a Constant Reader by completing the following
statement: "You are a Stephen King Constant Reader if..." Note: You reach a higher level on the Stephen King Fan-ometer if you're response is spot-on and clever. I'll go first.

* You are a Stephen King Constant Reader if you get goosebumps whenever a new work by Stephen King is announced, and your coccyx suddenly tingles.

You know you are a constant reader when someone says something disparaging about Stephen King and his work and you launch into your own version of The Bangorburg Address:

Four score and seven years ago (or whatever that would be) our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new author, conceived in a library, and dedicated to the proposition that not all writers are created equal. And STFU if you haven't read his books. Your opinion means nothing to me if you haven't read a good sampling of his work. And YES, Stephen King wrote The Shining. Why don't you know this? Dumba**.

(Sorry, vietnam flashback to a conversation I had with my library's information desk a couple days ago.)

... you can identify a SK first line at a glance and remember where you were the first time you read each one (learned this from the quiz posted in the FROM A BUICK 8 thread--lol). Not sure if this is a good thing or sort of scary and strange :ninja:

You've told your story of meeting Stephen King to EVERYONE you know.....twice...and actually look for opportunities to tell it again...to anyone...because it's one of those very, very rare nights in your life where everything was cool and you felt like you were exactly where you should be in the cosmos.

That is both scary and strange (and cool!)

And Shasta you are spot on. I love that feeling that he is talking directly to me. :howdy:

You're a SKCR if every time you smell oranges--you think maybe you have the Shining and you look around for any Ghosty people...then realize your dish soap is orange scented. (actually happened to me a couple weeks ago LOL!)
...or if you're having a particularly difficult er... B.M and suddenly your mind screams....SH1T WEASEL! :icon_eek:
(Too much?) o_O

One of the things I love about his books is his wacky sense of ha ha (and I think the sex scenes are actually pretty good, too!) I realize you wrote that, prufrock21, but still it is similar to the type of humour Mr. King exhibits in many of his best loved books.

You are a SKCR when you get excited over a bookshelf of Stephen King books. Also, you are constantly going to thrift store and used book stores to find an edition you most likely have, but you might find something cooler (like a first edition) You don't really plan to sell it, you just want to have it all to yourself for maybe the reread! Last one, maybe this applies, you buy the audio book, but then you finish the book with the print version you already had on your shelf or reverse!

You go to have the oil changed in your truck with a copy of 'The Stand' tucked under your arm. The ticket guy comes up and says "The Stand is my favorite story. I have read it at least 14 times. Asked if I have finished the Gunslinger Series (Hear that SR / SHME?!)... Following this a 20 minute conversation of stories written by King and Family."

True story.. happened this afternoon... Yeah, I am a constant reader and damned proud of it!
