You break it, you buy it. That'll be $132,000.

Good Monday afternoon.

Would you be so kind and watch this video, read the article and tell me what you think, please?

Parents face $132,000 claim after kid knocks over sculpture

I truly look forward to your thoughts and comments.

Thank you!
Unfortunately I had to listen to Captain Obvious doing goat yoga (3 times) because it kept replaying over and over.

The kid was NOT supervised, although the mother said he was. She is also saying the sculpture should have been better secured as it "fell" on her child.

In the video when a lady came over to see what was happening, that 5 year old boy sure sped up pretty fast and ran to Mom (who said she was out of the frame of the camera, coming out of a wedding reception?).

I would be surprised if the insurance company were to take this court. Mom says she is insulted over being called negligent but I don't know if I agree with her. The kid was running around as if he was in a playground, having a good time and climbing on the sculpture as if it was a set of monkey bars :monkey::m_excited:

Maybe she should have got a babysitter for her five year old or at least some older child to keep an eye on him while at the wedding/art display at the community center.

this lady got what she deserved, perhaps they can come up with some sort of soultion and she can pay half or work some community service or some thing, like garbage pick up or something. that kid should not have been left alone in an art gallery or at least she should have had some other type of entertanment with him,. this is just silly and the museum should not be out of costs for this item

Don’t know about liability, but who in their right mind puts a $132,000 unsecured sculpture in an unprotected area where little kids are free to roam? Negligence seems to go all around in this matter. I’m sure if the business continues pressing for the $132,000, the mother will countersue for $500,000 claiming the business is suing her for their own negligence, provided an unsafe environment where the child could have been hurt or worse from the statue falling, and emotional distress.

They have every right to charge her. There are two boys who are clearly not supervised and can be seen touching the art.

However, since she's already been quoted trying to put the blame on the center for not "securing" the piece, then i would expect a counter-suit. This will not end peaceably.

....the child was unsupervised...period....don't care if Mom "was just out of frame".....the little sucker shouldn't have been running around as he was and damn sure shouldn't haven't gotten near the "art" like he did....having said that, the city is foolish to think that sculpture couldn't have fallen in some other fashion....."clips" are not enough to secure such an object, and I saw no security anywhere near the precious artworks......finally, this is a great way for the artist to get what he wanted from his labor, for something that damn sure wasn't worth that kind of price tag....not like he's Rodin or Michelangelo.....

As a retired teacher and parent, I have supervised numerous field trips to museums, art exhibits and the like. I am referring to young children. There was no supervision by the mother or any of her friends. She admits she was off camera. Yet she allowed her child to freely run about in a place, as an adult, she should have been aware of the delicacy and value of art objects. Under no circumstances should the child have been allowed the run around or touch the artworks. It was not an interactive display. There is a definite degree of fault on the mother's part. Her lack of supervision and her lack of teaching her child the famous words: Do Not Touch!

Thank you for all your comments. :love_heart:

Just some of my goofy observations:

the mom claims he had just graduated from kindergarten (I don't know how it's relevant) and that he was *hugging* the female sculpture. That's not what I saw. The kid was at first feeling up the forms breasts (enlarge your screen and look carefully.). THen tries to climb up the form and it starts to topple.

I have super mom powers but I can't be around the corner in another room and keep my eyes on my child=not supervising.

Yes, in hind sight it should have been secured a bit better BUT we don't usually think someone is going to feel up and try climbing a female bust. (Did y'all see what I did there? )

Word to mom, you're not helping your child.

Thank you!

Yet another example of someone not accepting responsibility for something/someone. Mom is totally at fault for not watching what her children are doing in a museum. One doesn't let their offspring run around in a museum, even if you are there with them, which she was not. She even has the audacity to be upset that she was called negligent? That's exactly what she is. Had she been watching her little children this wouldn't have happened.
