i'm only up to 1300 or so. now i feel like an amateur ;-D

ETA, and even with only 1300, i was starting to screw up and rebuy stuff i already had, until a random clerk at a half price in ohio where i was visiting clued me into the wonders of using a phone app to keep track of your books. i've been trying to fill in my collection because at one point when i was younger, i did in fact get rid of some books (silly me) . . . so trying to remember what i'd *read* vs what i *owned* was getting seriously confusing lol
I have reached about 1600 or so. But we are all amateurs compared to Skimom! I had the same problem you had with rebuying stuff but i have gotten an app and have a database available on the phone so i know what i have and have not. Had the same problems that you mention before that.

I also have thousands of books. When my mom died, I inherited her books, a huge wall floor to ceiling built in bookcase, beautiful and filled with books. And then I have book shelves everywhere. And I have boxes of books.

This is my own thing, but when I walk into someone's home and I dont' see a bookshelf, or any books, I make a judgement about these people. I won't say what the judgement is, but it isn't very flattering.

i have roommates, so i can't just have bookcases all over (and between all of us, there's way too much furniture around, which is part of why i haven't stocked up on more shelving yet, we have a stupid amount of couches lol) so you wouldn't necessarily see my books and shelves as soon as you walk in. if we ever do our oft mentioned never accomplished spring cleaning and lighten our furniture load, i might have some more downstairs space to work with. let me tell you, when i was searching for bookshelves, i got in contact with a retiring lawyer, and i was interested in some shelves he was selling. got there, and what i couldn't tell from the picture was that they were huge and built for law books. i *wanted* those shelves lol. couldn't fit them anywhere. but i did score a smaller solid teak bookcase from him for 200 (original price 1100) which is definitely the best of my 3.

Same. And when I walk into a room with a bookshelf it's a trial not to go immediately to the shelf and take a look!

Libib . . .you can create categories, go within the categories, and scan bar codes to enter them into your phone. although i've found the ones on the back don't always work, the inside cover is best. i've got authors, plus a star wars, a category for each star trek, cause i have a lot of star trek books, and just a misc category for one offs or authors i haven't decided to get the whole collection on. i should probably have done some genre misc categories too but i might fix it at some point. ETA: and a marvel category, although it should probably be marvel/dc

I practically always do!! A bookshelf kind of cries out to one. "Come and look at me. See what i have". If a bookshelf stands in a livingroom i usualy do it but if its in a bedroom i dont (and usually doors are closed to bedrooms). I would have have had at least three times the amount i have now if i could have taken the books i wanted when my father died. But my apartment is small so just a trickle of the streams of books i wanted to bring home i could bring. The hardest choices i ever made!

Thats the one i have too!! Works great. I decided to divide my cathegories in genres. Literary fiction, SF&Fantasy, Crime, History, Archeaology and so on. Inside its cathegory i have ordered them by author. Thinking about creating a cathegory for my youthbooks and one for my comics (mostly old ones like Tintin, Asterix, Spirou and Lucky Luke, i still laugh at them)

IMG_2017062621720.jpg I got these today, I've heard some people here singing Clive barker's praises, and most people say Koontz was best in the 80s.

I figured I'd ask our resident swede about Let The Right One In. I'm vaguely aware that it is critically acclaimed and the film/TV show to go with it was quite popular, even subtitled.

LTROI is a wonderful novel! I've only seen the US version of the movie, which I really liked also. I am a big fan of the author of LTROI and have read all of his US editions of his books. Hey, at least you get to find out what happens to a vampire if they enter your home without being invited in........ Twilight Eyes is one of Koontz's best books, too. Barker turned the horror genre on its head when he published the BoB.

guess i'm in a minority in saying koontz has never really lost quality. good in the 80's and good now. a few of his best novels came in the 80's, but he's put out plenty of great stuff after 2000, including the entire odd thomas series. side note, after double checking his bibliography for release dates, jeez, he's done a lot of writing under pseudonyms and re-titling after becoming popular. might actually take me some work to complete his collection

....I agree, he is a bit uneven-but with his prolific career, that's bound to happen, as it has done in King's output.....I wanted to try to acquire everything he produced, but threw up my hands when I realized it would be nigh on impossible....

Good luck trying to get those pornography books he 'wrote' back in the '70's. You can find them if you dig hard enough but it'll cost you big bucks.

pornography lol? i wasn't aware of that. haven't seen a synopsis of some of the earlier stuff. i think i'll be good without if that's the case
Dean 'wrote' these books using outlines provided by the publishers at set prices per book just to get some money to eat, turned them in after he was finished writing them only to discover that someone in the publishing house re-wrote some passages, a couple of them were completely re-written and Dean refuses to claim ownership of them. They command steep prices.....
