went to the local 2nd and Charles (a rarity for me), got a few Preston & Child books i was missing (or just Preston in a few cases), got a Kevin O'Brien book i didn't even know i was missing, since i though i had them all, and picked up a book by Robert Doherty, which sounds a little strange on the surface, it's about psychic warriors, but presumably not in an x-men/mutants kind of way. but i liked his Area 51 series, so i'll give it a shot. i was really looking for a Mccammon or a Simmons, just one to try them out and see if i like them, or even another Hill, but that was a total strikeout.

I gave up on Prince Lestat by Anne Rice, The book has sat on my coffee table for about 4 days and I haven't picked it up in that time. Read about half of it and she just keeps throwing all of these new vampires into the mix. I just put it up on the shelf with the rest of the Rice books. Sorry Anne.

Collectors edition od Under the Dome, the one that was 75 bucks when it was first released and it was not sold in stores. The playing cards are missing, well, not playing cards, cards with the major characters from the book on them, awesome art, but I have those anyway in my signed/limited. But other than that, in pretty good condition.
The price?
Wait for it...wait for it....
$1.50. Canadian.

Snagged one of those collector's editions secondhand a while back at a very good price (no cards - need to find those someday). Think I paid under $5 for it, but you got an even better deal! =D

So some of you have probably noticed (and are bored of) me mentioning the unit in my local shopping centre that is used by a local school library that encourages people to donate their unwanted books, and take any that have been donated for free. Sometimes they close early and are closed on the weekends so they have a box in the shopping centre that people can leave them in and take what they want from it. I glanced at it today as I walked past it and on the top was Ashley Bell by Dean Koontz.

I think I can remember AchtungBaby singing it's praises.?

Yeah! I really enjoyed it. Pretty complex stuff for Koontz. :)

Got Sagor (approximately Fairytales) by August Strindberg, One of Swedens greatest authors. This one is written in 1898 and is a shortstory collection including fairytales both for children and for grownups. He is mostly good. In some books he gets a bit manic which somehow did not affect his language. I remember reading his The Red Room (1878) in school (required reading) and really liking it. Havent read this one before so i consider 1 $ for the book a catch.

Yeah, so I'm digging through the fiddy cent boxes at the geekshop last night, sure, long rows of long boxes, nothing bagged or even in order, everything mixed up. I'm hunting for all the Astro City I can find, you see, so it's taking some time, and I notice...at the far end of my current row stands an attractive woman, late twenties-ish, perusing a cabinet of figurines. Ok, whatever, where's them damn Astro Citys.

Like I say, it's taking me awhile--this is comic bargain hunting at it's finest. And she's still standing there...and standing there. She ain't just digging the super hero statues, I feel her eyes, she's snatching looks at me. I glimpse it from the corner of my eye, buncha times.

Whatever, Astro City, Astro City...

Finally, I think she's gone, I turn around to the row behind me--wham, there she is, eyes locked dead into mine before averting down to a box fulla Thor. Brief smile on her lips.

I probably should have approached her, saw what was up. But I was all sweaty and gross from work, and besides... Astro City! Astro City!

Think I done got all the cheap issues. Dang it.

Today I came home with a not-perfect 1st paperback copy of The Gunslinger. It's the one that has the movie poster cover and a signed 1st hardback of 'Wake Up Happy' by Michael Strahan (co-host of Good Morning America and previous co-host of Live With Kelly And Michael). I'll give the Strahan book to my sister as I don't like him after the way he left Live With Kelly.... Got them both at Goodwill.
