Fell for a temptation today..... They had a deal in the used book store. I got 12 books for 6$. Three Koontz i hadnt even heard of: The Husband, Fear Nothing and From The Corner Of His Eye. Are they good? What do the Koontz knowers on the board say? Then Don DeLillos Underworld. Anyone read that or him? He is a new author to me. About america in the postwar era. Alot of critics say its great but i'm more interested in your opinions. Then Black Girl, White Girl by Oates. Looking forward to that. She seldom disappoint. And i got The Woman In White by Wilkie Collins! His, after The Moonstone, most talked about novel. I haven't actually read it. Somehow it has passed me by. also got a thriller by a guy named Jonathan Nasaw called 27 Bones. Never heard of but why not? Also four fantasy novels and a true crime book. I think that was quite a catch for 6$! All in good condition too like they have got em as gifts and never opened them.

...All 3 are good Kurb, however Fear Nothing is part 1 of what has been a loooooonnnnngggg delayed trilogy-featuring one of Koontz's more memorable characters Chris Snow....the second book is Seize The Night....

I really liked Fear Nothing and the follow up Seize The Night. Both are great books. I've always wanted to read Wilkie Collins.

Like, mint, original copies of John Byrne’s Alpha Flight 1-23, under ten bucks. My comic pusher has a special deal with the fifty cent boxes, any ten for three fiddy. Do the math. Chimp’s gone insane.

I hated Byrne when I was a kid. Hated his art, hated the characters he did. FF? X-Men? Bah, gimme Conan. Gimme Shellhead.

But now my life has changed in oh so many ways...

Good funny books, them Alphas. Badass Canadian super heroes. Why not?

Took me a trip to Astro City as well, but you gotta hit the regular boxes for that now. I done got all the cheap ones (heh heh, *smooch*). Ya’ll never heard of Looney Leo, the cartoon lion accidentally brought to life by a mad scientist back in ‘46? The Gentleman’s sidekick? Well, that’s showbiz for ya, kid.

Found this for £1 earlier, 1st/1st UK copy.
Never read any of Chuck's work, so looking forward to this :)

Earlier today I found an old worn out paperback of To Kill a Mockingbird for just 50 cents. Thing is I could have bought a newer one in good shape from Shopko but oh well.

Plus I found 3 old Stephen King books in really great shape where they looked brand new. Salems Lot, Dead Zone and Past Midnight. They were a bit spendy at 75 cents for old paperbacks that were in great shape looking brand new.

So I came across a copy of Gwendy's Button Box at a thrift store so I had to buy it. But, it's thinner than the version that I bought directly from Cemetery Dance and the cover is more of a yellow than the darker golden color on the version from CD. The paper is thinner and smells more like ink. Here's a picture of them. The Cemetery Dance version is on the left. Is this a legit edition or is it counterfeit? What do you guys think? I used to come across fake Taiwan editions of books that were thinner and cheaper looking than the real ones.

One thing about CD is they do good quality work on heavier than normal stock and the only HB with that cover that I know of is by Hodder who generally do a good job. Plus the photo seems to indicate that the CD edition is not as wide as the other (if you look carefully you can see the image and text are stretched horizontally). So it could be bogus.

The books are actually the same height and length. One is just thinner than the other. The one on the left (official CD book) you can notice that the black lettering is outlined in yellow whereas the other copy is just plain black lettering with no outlining done.

I wasn't sure if the books were different sizes or if it was an optical illusion but you can tell just by looking that the one on the right is of lesser quality.

So today I went goodwilling with my bestie and here's what I came home with: 1st hardcover of Chaos by Patricia Cornwell, bluray of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and a dvd of Dead Man starring Johnny Depp (which I think was never released in the US except at a couple of art house theaters.

Well, I got bored so took a drive to a couple more thrift stores. Came home with a hardback 1st of Shackles by Bill Pronzini (it's another book in his 'Nameless Detective' series), an unread beautiful Plume original paperback 1st of The Drawing Of The Three and a paperback 'special overseas edition' of The Talisman that was published in Australia. I have never seen a copy of this book in the red color before- I thought it only came in black or white.
