You should look them up on thriftbooks. The prices are pretty reasonable. Dark Harvest did limited versions of all of his Leigh Nichols books and they're beautifully illustrated by Phil Parks, who also did the artwork for Oddkins, Twilight Eyes, Santa's Twin, Robot Santa. The Paper Doorway and Every Day's A Holiday. I love Phil's art!!
...thanks for the tip Sahib!.....

I think that The Witching Hour is Anne Rice's version of It. Not that there's a killer clown or anything like that but just that she gives such a thorough background in it. It's her massive tome of a novel and nothing else of hers comes close in size and scope since. I think at that point in her career she felt that she could write something this size and get away with it.
I could see that, and honestly had the same thought!

Here's the secret: go to abebooks, type in the author and the title, then click on the 'softcover' button, hit 'Search", then in the 'relevence' drop-down, click on highest to lowest prices. This will usually give you the list of ARC's from highest priced to lowest. The list will contain mass market paperbacks, too, so make sure you read the descriptions! Keep searching through the list, too, because I've gotten the last three Simmon's ARC's for less than $10 each, not including shipping. I just discovered how to do this just last week!!

This is the best search place ever: AddALL Used and Out of Print book search

I have reached about 1600 or so. But we are all amateurs compared to Skimom! I had the same problem you had with rebuying stuff but i have gotten an app and have a database available on the phone so i know what i have and have not. Had the same problems that you mention before that.

My current project is unloading magazines and VHS tapes so I can make room to even get all the books out of boxes to begin to see how many I have! Please see my notice about Yankee magazines under the Buy-Sell-Trade section. Sometime I may list books as well.

On extra copies--sometimes I do mistakenly buy something I have, but usually I am buying a hardcover to replace a paperback, better condition book to replace a worse, and so on. Only with a few special titles do I save multiple copies, in cases such as hardcover and movie edition, different illustrated editions, etc. Obviously with my Ray Bradbury books I have reading copies and shelf copies. Second copies of most books go into a box from which special books are distributed only to certain very good and deserving people and not so special given as gifts to kids. At one time there were local stores which took used books in trade but those are now down to none and I'd probably have to drive over 70 miles to try to trade books. If I can't give away or trade certain ones I will resort to dumping them at the church sale or even a thrift store. Some I would sell if I thought what I'd get for them would be worth my trouble selling them. I am thinking about joining Paperback Swap but they'd have to have a lot of things I want to make it worth my trouble to keep a lot of things I don't and mail them out when other people want them.

On apps, I thought of using LibraryThing but the one I like best is Goodreads. What do other people like before I spend a lot of time inventorying things into an app? Thanks.

Books in the left hand pile are mostly from the Columbia County Rural Library District Book Sale on April 21, or bought in thrift stores around the same time, and books on the right from the Mid-Columbia Library sale in Kennewick on April 28, or bought in thrift stores afterwards. The only paperback I bought in my own town was Mystery of the Witches' Bridge. The others came from Tri-Cities, but I arranged them in the picture so the piles would be even.

The latest from the local Elementary School book sale, thrift stores, and Just Right Books in Walla Walla's going out of Business sale! (Seriously, if you can get to Walla Walla, Washington between now and the end of September, do so!)

Were the photographs removed and if so why?

I'm using one called Libib. Ypu can divide your collection in parts of your own choosing, for instance, Crime, SF, Literary, Fact or something else. It can also read barcodes on the backs of books which makes entering them rather easy.

Went to a huge used book sale over the weekend. It was a four day sale, but I didn't even know it was going on until day 3, so I'm sure I missed some potential gems. There was no SK, at all. I'm guessing all the King stuff was already bought.

I grabbed some decent stuff, though. Got a nice first edition of The Ruins by Scott Smith for 50 cents. Also picked up hardcovers of Fevre Dream and The Damnation Game. The dust jackets aren't in great shape, but for 50 cents I didn't care. Got a nice hardcover of The Taking by Koontz also. As for paperbacks, I got a first paperback edition of Michael Crichton's Rising Sun and a brand new copy of Hyperion by Dan Simmons. I'm pretty sure the copy of Hyperion had never even been opened. Scored those for 25 cents each. Got some books for the kids also, including a brand new copy of The Phantom Tollbooth, which I loved as a kid. All in all, I got some good stuff and only spent $3.25, so I was happy.

Found a nice hardback reprint 1997 edition of The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury with a new introduction. This copy is signed! This is the second autographed Bradbury book that I've run across in less than a year. I also picked up the Plume trade paperback 1st printings of the 'collectors' editions of Cujo and Firestarter that were never read.

Another Deadwood story...we spent 2 hours wandering through an antique store. They had a 20 volume Mark Twain set of books. Printed in 1904 and they were in awesome shape. For $35.00!!

I was like, Score!! And then a piece of paper that said Sold fell off of them. :apologetic:

I should have asked about them because I wanted them. But I just kept thinking about the person coming back for them and the books not being there. I would have been super mad if something like that happened to me, so I just left them be.

Oh, I would have definitely asked if they were in fact sold or not. I wouldn't have bought them if they were ear-marked for someone.
