Had a productive weekend at the thrift stores. Here's my finds:

The Cal Ripkin, Jr. book is autographed and also came with a special baseball card. I'm giving this to my best friend's husband as Cal is his childhood idol. The Colin Powell book has an autographed sticker on the first page. I also found an unopened director's cut dvd of Amadeus, which I watched the other night. Sad movie.

OK. I picked up an Anthony Horowitz book, The Magpie Murders, and two Lincoln Child books, Terminal Freeze and Still Life With Crows. Are they any good? I have never read either of these authors before so dont really know what to expect. Have you read them? Opinions? Thanks.

Also got my hand on a historybook i'm looking forward to! Young Stalin by Simon Sebag Montefiore. Stalins life until he became leader of the party. He played many different roles in his life. Toodler, Abused child, poor student, poet, lover (women seem to have loved him in his young years, left a lot of bastard children in his wake) robber, killer, gangster, revolutionary. Always dangerous to be around but seldom uninteresting.

My daughter's school library has a discard cart or shelf that they continuously add to. I told her she needed to look them over regularly, great way to add to her book collection!

Yesterday she brought home 2 books. One was a Gordon Korman book. She showed them to me and I said, Cool! Keep watch on that discard shelf! Then last night right before bed, she came running into my bedroom all excited. The Korman book is signed! She was completely tickled at that that unexpected surprise. :applause:

This past weekend I found a really nice 2nd printing hardback of The Collector by John Fowles. It's his first novel. Steve did an introduction for it years after it was first published. Anyone know why the title runs bottom to top on the spine? It certainly would catch the eye when it's on a book shelf among other books but does it have significance in the novel?

the downtown thrift store i went to recently they have half of the Left Behind series. And they have some old hardcovers of Best of Science Fiction short story stuff.

Funny that the thrift store doesnt have one copy of the first book of Left Behind but they have the rest of the Left Behind books
