I have made a major bargain!! They were having a mediasale. You got a plasticbag (rather big too) and the books and DVD and CD you could put in there are yours for 6 USdollar. I walked home with 22 books. 22 books!!!! Among them Asimov, Irving, Kertesz, P:D, James, Tolkien and many others. Ohh I have no idea where i'm gonna put them but 22 books....!!!! (and i could have crammed more in the bag but did not want books i did not feel the lust to read)

Almost all of the books I pick up intending to keep, either for my mom or I or both of us to read. This lot came from the AAUW sale held in Walla Walla on February 24, 2017, with a few picked up at the same time from thrift stores. Sometimes I end up either accidentally or intentionally with extra copies of a book. These are to be given only to the most good and deserving among my acquaintance, or some I might sell.

Today I came home with an autographed 1st hardback of Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty by Diane Keaton ($2.99) and a beautiful hardback copy of Command The Morning by Pearl S. Buck ($1.99)- I don't know if it's a 1st printing or not as it's not stated on the copyright page. Published in 1959 with the $4.50 price on the dust jacket. Got this one for a co-worker who loves Buck's novels. The pages and dj look like new!

These books are mostly from when I went to the Latah County Library Friends Sale in Moscow, Idaho, on March 4, 2017. For the first time in my years of history with this sale, I did not buy a single item. These all came from thrift stores and used bookstores in Moscow, Lewiston, and Clarkston. I am putting together Childcraft sets for two families and am still one volume short on each. The red-and-white set needs to be complete by the end of April. The orange set has some time; I don't think the kid can talk yet, let alone read! The Reader's Digests came from the free cart at St. Vincent's in Dayton. I am interested in vintage (mostly 1973 and earlier) Reader's Digests if cheap/free and in good condition.

Forgot to post that the other day that the mailman brought me a very nice 2nd printing hardback of The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin and a book club edition of The Prometheus Crises (sans dustjacket!) by Thomas Scortia & Frank Robinson (which I will donate as I was hoping for a true 1st printing). Both were from thriftbooks.com and the third book in the order is a trade paperback Hard Case Crime edition of The Venom Business by 'John Lange' aka Michael Crichton which should arrive today. The Venom Business trade paperback will complete my 'Lange' collection of these HCC titles.

Soooo.....Heading out to one my good book find places a couple of weeks or so ago, I ended up having a good day. I took the new bridge between Indiana and Kentucky which put me coming in to Half Price Books from a different direction. Doing so ended up being a blessing. I stumbled upon a second Half Price Book store that I didn't even know existed. When I went in and headed straight to the Horror section I stood in silent amazement. Staring back at me was several of the 'older' copies of SK books. They stared back with what appeared to be perfect unblemished dustcover spines. I stood silent as Carrie, Cujo, Shining, Thinner, Night Shift, Salem's Lot, Dead Zone, Firestarter, Danse Macabre, Pet Semetary and several other copies sat there waiting for me to take them in my hands. More SK books than I had ever seen in one location before just sat there. My mind was racing like a kid given free reign in a candy store. Paralysis held me in place as my mind raced. Had I somehow traveled in time or had someone died and their unknowing children sold their perfect book collection to the store just to get rid of them. My hand shot out to Carrie first and it was perfect. Like most of the books there, it appeared to have never been cracked open. It was not a first edition but it was nice. I started stacking up books in front of me as I compared each book to my list that I keep stored on my phone. Many were First Editions, many were just better copies than what I had in my collection. I ended up replacing 9 books in my collection and I hurried to the front to pay and get over to the other HP Bookstore as quickly as possible. Could I be so fortunate a second time? The answer is yes. The other store looked almost identical to the first store and I replaced 4 more books in my collection. The price of books ranged from 2-9 bucks and I was ecstatic that I had scored such a big find. Plus, for 2 bucks, I picked up Clive Barkers Book of Blood which has a really cool story called The Yattering and Jack. A story that I read in High School many years ago and was happy to find again.
All in all, it was a great day that still leaves me wondering how they came into so many near perfect books from the 70's and 80's. Leaving the second store, the cashier was amazed. He said I found some really nice old copies and that he was completely unaware they were back there.

Hmm...I see there's a Half Price Books in Ft Wayne, IN (about an hour's drive from my neck of the woods). Thanks for the idea, Cowboy.

I so wish there was a Half Price Books here in Spokane. I miss them so much. Two of them have closed in the Seattle area (lost their leases) so now there's only the one in Everett, one south of Everett, one in Tacoma and one in the south center area by the airport.
