Sigmund - like the name. You should go more often. this is the best (not just because it's People like SK) but like they talk about anything, help you when you have problems and more important are receptive to ideans, books etc. I have been on boards where the chat is subliminal sexual content. i prefer not to say. people here have opinions, read. Apparently the area where i come from if you read more then 30 pages it is a Doorstopper. We all have read the unabridged version of the stand. The people on the board read other authors from Shelley to Grisham. They Think. apparently in ireland and i can verify this it happened to me. Apparently if you think in you job, your boss says " you are not paid to think" WTF. i think therefore i am a programmer. please forgive me i can't find the SKMB thoughts on the board.. The area i come from You leave school at 12-14 no debs, no graduation go out to work, get drunk use females. I am open to people who are talented but left school at a young age. Possibly had to. i don't know. People on this book first and foremost READ and Think and form opinions. I love this board. and the people in it. I have rather unusal interests in physics(cosmology, nucluer, time travel),Psychology, Programming(qm trying to do a degree in games programming which will be the ultimate test of my programming abilty. all i can say is bring it on.) The people in the board are intellecutals and are warm. On other boards they lexicon is not proper english(i know my spelling is atriocus) is be4, UR(not the audiobook), The english language - both US and British is been torn apart.

Dear ms. mod can you please put this post in Your thoughts on the SKMB. I can't seem to find. it.

Danke schon

I totally agree with you too, Siggy *hugs* UTD the novel also brought me to the SKMB. You and John welcomed me warmly and I felt very comfortable posting here. I loved UTD and I posted like a hundred positive comments about UTD before I made a somewhat negative comment. One of the "SK can do no wrong" regulars criticized me immediately and I got so uncomfortable, I quit posting.

UTD the series brought me back to the boards (I really like UTD lol) and I decided I didn't care if some people didn't like some of my posts. In fact, I'm about to go post a negative comment on another board lol.

Good evening.

When I joined the SKMB I came in with a huge gripe.

(I was disappointed with the ending of Under the Dome.)

I was met with "Welcome" and queries. Why did I dislike the ending? What were my ideas/thoughts how it should have ended?

In addition, I had personal Welcome to the Board messages on my Profile Page and was encouraged to keep posting. And I did keep posting.

I would like to think that I am accepted and yes, even liked on this board. (Cut me some slack on that last thing. Ha!)

If I had been slammed and had my azz kicked about I would not have stayed here. (I'm sure there are some members that wish I would have gone away never to return. Ha, ha!)

There are posts that seem to suggest the Newbies, who only post one time griping and leave, are *trolls* or *flamers*. That might be so. But, what if they only posted one time and left because they were slammed and had their head kicked in because they posted a negative opinion?

What if...just what if...they were welcomed and asked to explain their position/gripe? Asked what other SK novels they have read and how they enjoyed them?

What if they were welcomed and accepted, negative post(s) and all to our community? Might they not become a part of the SKMB community? Maybe hang around and get to see what we are all about?

Just one goofy thought.

May all have a good night and a great week.

Peace.
What raises the degree of difficulty in knowing how to respond to someone posting something "negative" for the first or second time is infrequency of opportunity. I think a good while back, on the old "Main Board", such people were a little more frequent, so for my part I felt ready to discern the sort we were dealing with now and then. It was easier then for me to determine whether this OP was, let's say, simply unhappy or disappointed, while that one was here to intimidate for no reason. I remember by far most of the latter were what I call Bombers; those who, comically, go to the trouble to become members long enough to drop a bomb post, then just fly away. What makes more sense to me is that their first post-bomb is meant to determine the sort of people we are, whether or not we'd be fun to harass, whether there are any like-minded, sado-masochists here. When they discover we're actually dangerous they go somewhere else for fun.

Nowadays there are fewer Bombers and Sado-Masochists, fewer complaining newcomers at all, so when one finally appears I've been lulled, I'm slow on the uptake, I'm rusty, my skills are not honed, I'm outta practice. I miss the good old days; especially I miss the true Trolls and Flamers and Gremlins and Asshats and troublemakers, dammit.

You are quite right Sigmund - I remember getting those fairies from you on my profile page on the first board I joined (the one before this newer version with different software). I was so touched!

I recently went back and apologized to someone (a Newbie) in case I came on too strong and then I went to their page to say "Welcome to SKMB!" - it only takes a minute.

We are so comfortable wallowing in our little "I love Stephen King" world that we forget not everyone is a humungous fan of the man!

Well said. Everybody has a bad day. Maybe a few of them. Even if it's a gripe that brings somebody here, they're probably pretty decent folk, given half a chance. We've all had our complaints, and I'd hate to think we're judged on those alone.
 I like the way you write! (Have you considered becoming a published author?):m_chacha:

Yuck! How can people drink that stuff. Does Guinness score extra points??
The full strength Guinness, starting out,is tough to take..I cut it,with a half pint of Harp or whatever beer you have handy, they call it a black and tan,or a half and half. After the settling, you get the half and half appearance, give it a stir and drink,or drink as is..and it is quite delicious, not so heavy as the regular pint..

This is good. My solution would be to fill separate glasses with the two brews and then proceed to take a sip of each and let them mix on the way down the ole hatch.
