Aren't they the same person? I thought Stephen King wrote under that name at one time?

Oh by the way, you know what I think happens sometimes?

Well for me, I have ideas in my head for a film or a story and sometimes not mention it out loud,
next thing I know...bada boom, bada bing, there is a story that gets written that I think of, or
a film made of an idea I think of, and I'm like, "That's scary"!!!

I haven't ready any of it yet but the plot synopsis and description of the villain sound like a Dean Koontz story. :suspect::typing:
Bite your tongue.
Dean Koontz *wishes* a King villain came across with Koontz flavor.
Even through the Bachman veil and collaborative efforts with Peter Straub, Mr. King reads far more sophisticated than anything Koontz has ever written.

Well, excuuuuuuuuuussssse me. I merely made the comment, intended in a humorous way, as a jab at the inordinate amount of bile spewed toward Mr. Koontz by Stephen King fans. I have never understood, with the countless number of authors whose works occupy the bookstore shelves and the electronic ether, why SK fans constantly feel the need to single out Dean Koontz as a target for their ire. Dean Koontz has sold tens of millions of books, has had many number one best sellers and has entertained millions of people worldwide with his brand of deftly written suspense thrillers, while only rarely treading upon similar horror territory as Mr. King. Koontz has declared no personal war against SK or his followers yet it seems that oft times people on this board go out of their way to belittle him. I don't see the same sort of venomous attitude displayed towards other best selling horror writers such as Clive Barker, Robert McCammon or even John Saul, whose work sometimes seems to be a low rent rip off of SK. Are all Koontz books winners? Nope. But he has written a lot of novels that are damn fine by any standard. If one does not care for the stories of Dean Koontz or his golden retrievers or whatever else about the man that seems to offend so many SK fans, then one is under no obligation to read his books. But I just think it would be nice if people could refrain from insulting the man every time his name is mentioned.

I think when comparing writers, well I can take an example in the martial arts world.
You hear of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and many right?
If you don't know, just to let you know, people are always arguing over who is better.
Each martial artist has their own "style" and unique in their own way.
I am asked time and time again..
Who do you think is better Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee?
That is one question I can never answer.
My favorite is Jackie Chan, but both man are great in their own way.
Now with writers, each person writes their own way and contributes to the world in their own way.
We all have our favorites, that is true.
But as I'm getting older, I'm learning that each and every person on this planet and unique in their own way.
A long time ago I had read Dean Koontz stories and liked them.
But it never dawned on me about comparing the two until someone put it out there, that one question...
Who is better?
More than anything there might even be better writers than both these men, but people just never
seem to get their stories out there.
No offense to either writer.
The reason why I think this way, is because I have had the opportunity to talk with more
and more Grandmasters in Martial Arts and see they are as good as Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.
They have opened my eyes even more so, and because of that,
and yes I always know, everything in this world is a competition, BUT
if one enjoys someone's works, a writer, or any type of artist, then they must
be doing something worthwhile with their lives.
Yes we will always love Stephen King, but it's ok to enjoy the work of others too :)

....go easy on Lily-TD, sometimes humor(on both sides)doesn't translate well...and being a no-apology Koontz fan myself-I've never found an understanding of the vitriol directed at his work from anyone-not just fellow Constant Readers...maybe it's because few of his books are as deeply layered and complex as Steve's....don't really care though, coz I'm gonna keep reading...

Count me in as well. I have each new SK as it is published. I also have each DK as it is published. I love Koontz's humour in some of his books. Life Expectancy had me actually laughing out loud in some places, but it was one cracking story!

It wasn't so much directed at Lily as just the general ill feelings that seem to be aimed at Koontz for no darn good reason. It's been building for a while so I had to get it out there before a vein popped or something. Now I've had my final say and am moving on with my life.

Well, I think it's because he's not very good.

I read him. I very much liked his old stuff. But it just got really strange and filled with dogs. It got boring and stale.

Now, many people might not agree but you are, after all, on an SK page.

If you join a Koontz page you may get the same results.

You know I love you but if you want a Koontz fan club, you should probably be on a Koontz page, my friend.
