When I was 17 or 18 I read a book called "Marijuana Reconsidered" (but I think they spelled it "Marihuana") - in it they talked about how there used to be a thriving hemp industry until it was banned due to people using it as a recreational drug.
I don't know the history of how marijuana became illegal in America, except for something I read which I also don't know was factual or not. But I do know that the bottom line reason is a political one. Sometimes, and more and more, I really despise politics.
