I saw this and it just made me sad. I will never ask Mr. King for his autograph. I mean really what is that anyway. It's just his name...over and over. Like a horse putting his hoof down. Of all the things you could wish Stephen King to write for you---and all the tremendous, glorious stories he has written for you and you want his hoof print. He was great about it though--just working away, sign sign, sign. Am I off base here?

OMGoodness, this is horrible, that made me feel awful for him.... :(
( Moderator please tell Stephen I said forget about the G3... the mob frightens me.)

I also won't do that to him. I look forward to hopefully one day shaking his hand after he signs a book for me. That's all I'd ever ask of him.
That's what I wanted to do when I met him. But I had planned on gifting him a pen, and that was the most I managed to do. I was totally incapacitated when the moment arrived, my feet weren't touching the ground and there was no coherent thought in my mind at all at the time. I can actually say I had a true out of body experience. For the three hours that followed my brain wasn't taking in anything. It was mental.
Next time maybe.

I totally agree Christine and thanks for posting the video, it's always nice to see my friend looking well like he does there.

It must be me. I'm an only kid, and it makes me feel uncomfortable when I get trapped between carts in a grocery store aisle. When people push up to within a couple feet of my face to talk to me, I'm jumping out of my skin.

I seriously couldn't watch more than 28 seconds of the video. It made me as uncomfortable as watching a Troma movie. Once again I feel like I should apologize, this time to Mr. King, for the nature of our species.

Didn’t watch the whole thing, but what I saw of it was what I expected to see. He’s a celebrity and obviously knows how to deal with many of the trapping of stardom, and with patience and grace. I guess he could have always gone in through the “back door” if he didn’t want to deal with the mayhem.

I was dining out with the family around Christmas last year. Seated at the table next to me was Mario Andretti with his wife and another couple. Although he was an idol of sorts of mine in my childhood (I couldn’t tell you how many models I built of his cars), I didn’t say a word as it was not a public event and I respected his privacy. But others didn’t, and it was rather uncomfortable for us and not so pleasant an experience being at the next table, with people coming up to him to talk and get his autograph, invading our space in the process.

He left shortly before we did. He held the door open for us as we left the restaurant. I thanked him and wished him and his wife a Merry Christmas.

So I am assuming here, that most of us have at some point signed our names over and over. When buying a car, house, etc., something like that. I know that by the last page, my signature looks not even remotely like the first few pages do. My husband's scrawl is merely a few lines crossing each other by then. Wouldn't you think the same is true for celebrities? :umm:

I would definetly go to a book signing of his, but I would never be comfortable with the scenario in that video. <<shudder>>

When it's something like this that is part of a publicity promotion, he expects this sort of thing to happen and takes it in stride as part of the business but it's a different matter when he's having personal time and feels he's within his rights to say no to a request for an autograph under those circumstances. I would guess that any celebrity would appreciate having their privacy respected at those times. It has on occasion become necessary to not return to certain hotels because there is an underground network that lets the professional autograph hunters know when a celebrity is staying at an establishment and they then hang out by the entryways to get an autograph which they later sell. I was amazed when they even showed up at one of the private airport terminals in Germany as the only way they would have known about it is if someone there let the word out. Bad enough they showed up but a couple were especially rude when Steve told them he was very tired and didn't want to do any more autographs, shouting out a "Thanks for nothing, Mr. King." :glare:

Thank you for the insight, Ms. Mod.

To me, in that video, he didn't seem put out. In fact, he joked at one point. And like Ms. Mod said he expects this sort of thing. There was security present and a barrier. I don't think I would shove a book in my favorite authors face to get it signed but I would try to get it signed.

Now, not respecting a person's privacy? A entirely different matter.

Those type of people need a hard slap in the face.

That is not only rude, but obnoxious too.

Wow. It's that kind of entitlement that really p*sses me off about fans. When I was still in talent management, a client was cast in a Tom Hanks movie in a considerable part, so that meant he walked the red carpet at the film premiere. Being part of his management entourage, I walked ahead of him to watch for media people who wanted an interview with him. It was astonishing what the movie fans screamed and yelled at him when he rounded the corner to get into the cinema - they were angry he was ahead of Hanks and Helen Hunt in the "carpet queue" and told him to get out of the way. :icon_eek: Never mind that Hanks and Hunt were roughly ten minutes behind him - and there was no one else walking in between him and the rest of the cast. The journalists were actually great - they were curious about him and behaved themselves.

That wasn't Wilson by any chance was it?

On his shell he holds the earth.
I've asked for his autograph. Three times. At a book signing. (I asked for one extra over the two we were allowed. It was my birthday and he very kindly agreed AND wrote happy birthday! He's a good man.)

If I saw him in real life, nope. I see celebrities all the time and have never asked. Though there's very few people who's autographs I care about so I guess that doesn't count!!!
