Stanley Kramer used to come in to the restaurant where I got my first job. He was a rather intense man....It's a great comedy, one of a kind, I guess, and a testimony to great direction when you consider that a number of the players weren't exactly established in move acting.
Oh, tell me about him!Stanley Kramer used to come in to the restaurant where I got my first job. He was a rather intense man....
Not too much to tell. I was a busboy in the cafe at the Bellevue Holiday Inn. He would come in occasionally for lunch with his daughter. We weren't allowed to approach him (other than to get them coffee or for the waitress to take their order). I really didn't know too many of his movies then (I was but a lad of 19 and hadn't seen hardly anything he'd directed). He always had to have Tab to drink, and the kitchen didn't have it in their cooler so one of us had to go outside to the other building where there was a pop machine that had it inside and get a can of it, bring it back over to the building with the restaurant in it, pour it in a glass with ice and serve it to him. I don't believe I ever saw him laugh....Oh, tell me about him!
I appreciate it. I wasn't sure what you'd meant by "intense" but I kind of get it now. Funny, a man who can create the kind of hilarity in Mad Mad World and you never saw him smile. Not too much to tell. I was a busboy in the cafe at the Bellevue Holiday Inn.
