On a related, but very random note..
When I ran out of unemployment, found out that my lease was up this June without renewal and a bunch of other stuff, I went online and applied for every benefit available. I just wanted to be able to pay the rent. I was denied.

So today, I come home from work, open the mail and there is a SNAP card in there. (Food Stamps) What?
I called the number on the back hoping to speak with someone, thinking that it was in error. I never got a person, just typed numbers in, then checked the balance on the thing. Over 200 bucks for food.

Now what? I will wait till Monday and call them back and try to get a real live person. I have been eating PB&j's and noodles for a month. Now I have a job, and I get this. I sure would like to back-use it... and stock freezer but that is not right. Or probably not legal. But god, I would love some meat. I just got paid for the first time yesterday and it is not even cleared yet.

I am employed and moving to another state.

Use it because you should have had some help when you badly needed it.

Why can you not use this? Just because of bureaucratic red tape it took so long to make it to you that now you are in better circumstances.

I don't know much about these things (especially because I am not in the US) but would it be wrong for you to use it now?

You could donate some of the food to a food bank or use it to make something to take downtown to the homeless shelters.

200 dollars could make you and some other folks happy. I am not saying go out and buy luxury items - just good nutritious food. Maybe some fresh fruit? yogurt? ingredients for a smoothy? Those big jars of protein powder are pricey but are great to put in the blender with some milk, ice cubes, a banana etc. Makes a nice refreshing drink!

edit: hey - I just had a great idea - vitamins! those things always cost a fortune so if you bought a few bottles of those that would be a good way to use it. I like those chewable ones (yah - just like a kid) as they taste better.
Gummy vitamins, sour gummy vitamins - yummy - you need these now to deal with the stress of a commute and taxing your brain cells at work =D:):peace::yes_pig::m_corn:

I would feel wrong doing it, and think that I would get in trouble some how. But it would be great to have some stuff for the freezer. I dunno..

I don't want to abuse the system, but maybe this one time? Then call them. Oh, hell, I don't know.
Sweetheart, just use it and drive home from the grocery store laughing all the way! You DESERVE this little windfall after all you're gone/been thru. If you get another one in the mail, then you should call and send that one back, but this is yours. Red tape is a swamp that takes forever to get out of and obviously this 'gift' is late coming for you. Enjoy it!!

It's a credit card looking thing. It came with a schedule that has months on it and when money is deposited.. Looks to be an ongoing thing that I will stop. After this.
