On a related, but very random note..
When I ran out of unemployment, found out that my lease was up this June without renewal and a bunch of other stuff, I went online and applied for every benefit available. I just wanted to be able to pay the rent. I was denied.

So today, I come home from work, open the mail and there is a SNAP card in there. (Food Stamps) What?
I called the number on the back hoping to speak with someone, thinking that it was in error. I never got a person, just typed numbers in, then checked the balance on the thing. Over 200 bucks for food.

Now what? I will wait till Monday and call them back and try to get a real live person. I have been eating PB&j's and noodles for a month. Now I have a job, and I get this. I sure would like to back-use it... and stock freezer but that is not right. Or probably not legal. But god, I would love some meat. I just got paid for the first time yesterday and it is not even cleared yet.

I am employed and moving to another state.

not_nadine NN- it can take up o 30 days before you get a card. Thus the arrival now. USE IT> it applies to the time in which you had no income and was eligible for that benefit.
Since your financial situation has changed you will be required to notify them. However, make sure the understand pay ck will not be coming for two weeks. If said SNAP card was good for April, use it now. They may decide to cut the amount for May or close your acct.

Heading out in the morning. I expect to see you all in the clinker with me after the arrest. I will bring snacks.
If this is all the government had to worry about, they would be lucky. You are entitled to your share of help. Think of all the crooked politicans who would use this even with the salary they get. You pay your taxes. It is not gonna to hurt the government to give you a little cash to buy food.

I think you've convinced her already :m_bigwink:

Now I am hungry - I need to go heat up some meat pies I bought at Mr. D's Tarts and Pastry

I go back and forth about things like this. It does draw attention to a real problem (food insecurity), but so many time s it feels like a publicity stunt. I'd like to see someone try it for more than a week or a month, and to start from zero--nothing from cupboards.

I don't like all the videos I see on fb when people pretend to be homeless and see how society reacts to them; I think these videos lead to people miss-trusting people who pan handle and really need help.

and it alienates people who are really homeles
