Oh no! Keep it, pass it on, whatever you'd like. I think I've given away more copies of that than any book other than The Dark Half (for some reason, I couldn't keep one of those on my shelf for YEARS-lol). I finally found a HB copy of TiMW, so the PB can be free range.skimom2 Just finished These Is My Words last night. Oh, my heart! What a beautiful story. I read her notes at the end, and it's so funny how I was seeing Sam Elliot as Jack then entire book. Were you, as well? Thanks for sending me that. I might loan it to a co-worker if you don't mind before I send it back to you.
Holy crap. This book. It's really, really good so far. So angry. So dark. Raw, real, and unflinching. Usually that kind of thing ... isn't my thing. But Matheson has made it so compelling.I started I Am Legend (audiobook) today. Really effective, very dark. DARK.
I haven't read any McCammon, but he's on my list, and this sounds so appealing to me.I started 12 Years a Slave (on the rec of danie and I can't remember who else), but it got too heavy-weather last night (TOO MANY TEARS!), so I started Boy's Life. McCammon boggles my mind: this is the 4th book of his I've read, and none are ANYTHING like the others, stylistically. If I didn't know better, I'd think 'Robert McCammon' was a pen name for several different writers. It's weird!
skimom2, please try to finish 12 Years when you're feeling better. It's worth the pain. Boy's Life is simply great--enjoy!I started 12 Years a Slave (on the rec of danie and I can't remember who else), but it got too heavy-weather last night (TOO MANY TEARS!), so I started Boy's Life. My favorite is Mystery Walk.I haven't read any McCammon, but he's on my list, and this sounds so appealing to me.
Awesome - thankee Sai. I know a few people who would enjoy reading it. It was so incredibly good. I can't believe I'd never heard of it.Oh no! Keep it, pass it on, whatever you'd like. McCammon is the pen name of Stephen King. I'm glad you're liking Rick's books, he really is a great writer!I started 12 Years a Slave (on the rec of danie and I can't remember who else), but it got too heavy-weather last night (TOO MANY TEARS!), so I started Boy's Life. For Boy's Life, it almost seems like it (so far--I'm only about 1/5 in)! So far, the style reminds me very much of Mr. King's story, The Body--the same general 'feel'.McCammon is the pen name of Stephen King. I'm glad you're liking Rick's books, he really is a great writer!
You guys are making me want to ditch the book I'm reading to start this one!!!!!!Awesome - thankee Sai. I know a few people who would enjoy reading it. It was so incredibly good. I can't believe I'd never heard of it.
Okay, just downloaded The Light of the World! I'll get the roll of paper towels ready! It's a good'un, danie I will definitely go back to 12 Years--I just literally spent 3 solid hours crying while reading The Light of the World on Sunday (I'm talking, so many tears that they laughed at tissues & I had to use paper towels), then had another outburst while writing the review (and mostly re-reading the entire book while "looking for quotes"), and I needed a break. TLotW is in my top books ever. The review was killer--I felt like those kids on American Idol: you know the way that any time they choose to sing a song that means 'everything' to them, they cock it up? They're too emotional to be objective about their performance. It was very difficult to be professional (New York Journal of Books doesn't like personal, 'I felt' reviews), so I sent a preemptive 'sorry' to my editor in case I 'did an American Idol' Thankfully, he seemed to like it as submitted.

The Waste Lands is such a good book Out of the whole series, books 2-4 are the strongest thematically and in storytelling (IMHO). None are bad, of course (I don't think Mr. King can write a bad book), but those are the best.I'm rereading The Wastelands. This year I have also started to reread all of King's books.Doing one a month and am soooooo excited to start The Stand next month.I am reading the DT series as fillers in between monthly reads.
I agree. His Hell House is quite disturbing. Left me with a cold, eerie feeling for months after reading it.Holy crap. This book. It's really, really good so far. So angry. So dark. Raw, real, and unflinching. Usually that kind of thing ... isn't my thing. But Matheson has made it so compelling.
That was just gas from that Chinese food you ate for dinner......I agree. His Hell House is quite disturbing. Left me with a cold, eerie feeling for months after reading it.
What did you like about it Kurben? I found it tedious and less than thrilling myself. I'd be curious to hear your take on it.If anyone would like a rather different take on the vampire i can recommend Elisabeth Kostova and her book The Historian. I really liked it.
