...Hiya everybody, it be I-your friendly neighborhood Village Idiot bringing you good tidings of great joy, free encyclopedias and blah, yadda, blah.....anyway, now that the "official" death knell of the Summer season-Labor Day has passed(and yes, I'm still wearing white...briefs that is)and kidlets have returned to school...I figured this would be a good time to roll out the plans for the upcoming King Kon...most of the older members here are aware, that during the Mansfield, Ohio Kon in 2014-a lengthy discussion was held amongst attendees, a vote taken and the choice made to shuffle off to Colorado for King Kon 2016. The every other year concept was floated by yours truly, and I think accepted well-to hold Kon's this way, so as to allow those that would like to join us to have time to plan and save up.
Having said that, I was pretty well exhausted from trying to make the 2014 Kon a good one, since Ohio is my home turf-but life intervenes for all of us, and the clock kept ticking without anything happening on the planning front 2016 wise-so by default-here I am again, trying to run the Titanic past the iceberg this time. With help from Blunty and IMMENSE aid & succor behind the scenes from HipMamaJen, I came up with a plan.
I chose to set everything up myself and I bear full responsibility for same. Frank and Jen have simply been there to be outstanding helpers, and nothing disagreeable or sour should be directed toward them. This "dictatorship" may not set well with some of you, and if so-so be it. The whole group discussion for the last two Kon's became very unwieldy at times and nigh on impossible in some situations as Frank and I can both attest. So, with Jen's miraculous mind and my mule-headedness, this is what I have laid out, and those that wish to join us are warmly welcomed and those that don't care for what I have hatched, no hard feelings,
King Kon 2016 will take place July 21st to the 24th. Plans are to get a tour Friday through the infamous Stanley Hotel(The Shining o'coss) and also on Saturday visit Boulder, where much of the latter part of The Stand took place. Other activities will be on our own, Jen says there are many shops and other neat places to go and we will have another group meal as well. Accommodations that seem appropriate in area and most budgets are listed below, and booking rooms should begin as soon as you're able:
-Alpine Trail Ridge Inn in Estes Park
800-233-5023
-Boulder University Inn
303-417-1700
-Boulder Twin Lakes Inn
303-530-2939
...look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it...the first two have given me memories and friendships that will live forever....
Thank you, thank you, - a thousand thank-yous Scott - it is great to have the date pinned down so far in advance - now I can ask for the time off well in advance!

Also, another option for those so inclined might be a camping option?

We met some guy on a boat tour this summer who had been to Estes Park (which I believe is nearby) and he said he worked down there. Dang it - it is early morning and I cannot recall the name of the place.

Anyway I must go get ready for work! Thanks again - you are a sweetheart! :cool2::cheerful::biglove:

I wonder how much it would cost to book a room in the actual Stanley Hotel :wack: for those four days?:ghost_002::ghostface::icon_eek::eek-new:

Me too, me too! I want to meet Flake! Let's start a fundraiser! :)
That is an incredible thing to say, Danie and I thank everyone for their generous thoughts but right now I have too many family obligations to do this, though when the time comes that I can, I'll do my very best to make it happen.

Thank you so much, guys... xox

Shirts, shmirts! Bring on the Redrum beer! ;-D
I was so looking forward to reading this thread and seeing who might be going because I certainly plan too! Those that can't will be missed though.
Thank you Scott, Frank, and Jen for the planning and work you've put toward this. I am really excited to meet everyone and hang out and just have a good time with fellow King geeks.
I agree with way back at the beginning, I'd like to try and stay where other people are in case we need to do a jock strap or panty raid. I mean, in case we want to meet for warm milk in the middle of the night.

Doing a quick check, for those three nights, the website is showing a minimum price of $231.20 per night and going up from there...
There are like 12 different types of room choices which vary the price in some cases.

I know all YOU guys will be great. But I sometimes come across in ways I don't intend. I just hope I don't put my foot in it.
...well here's the thing, I have very little couth at times and my mental filter is permanently plugged-so expect me to call you on it if anything atrocious comes out...and I mean that in a positive fashion...

I don't know if anyone responded to this. But this is still the movie.
We all know the book. So much more than that movie. Can you imagine if there was actually a visit from the man himself and we were all wearing movie stuff?

No disrespect at all, GNT.
I am at the doctor's in the waiting room so no book to check but there was something in the book about a jungle pattern maybe snakes or vines? But different definitely from the Shining movie. I just wanna T-shirt (dammit!) :blues:

Thanks Deb - just got back home from the doc - now he wants me on a new drug
amlodipine - the hydrochlorothiazide was messing me up

But anyway, enough about my high blood pressure - yes, yes, definitely yes - we are going to be there next summer.

I think I will ask my manager tomorrow (or even go to the director if I have to) to make sure I get that week off.

Three girls with more seniority than me get to pick their vacation times first and we have a rule in our section that only one person at a time can be on vacation which is silly when there are so many of us!

You think if I give them 10 months notice they will make an exception? Our 2016 vacation planner does not officially come out until May 2016.

Andy told me to call in sick for four days - um - no - perhaps NOT! Don't want to lose my job :a11:
