Before Michael Crichton died, you could send books to his office in California (of course with pre-paid return postage!) and he would sign them. I had all of his books in hardback 1st printings which I sent (three at a time) to him for signing. If you asked to have them inscribed to yourself, they were mailed back much quicker than if you wanted them just 'flat-signed'.

That is effing awesome and I wish I'd know that. Love my Crichton.

In regards to the auto-pen, not sure how to differentiate and maybe someone could give me some pointers, but it certainly appears genuine. There's variation on the depth and the fade of the ink where he applied or decreased pressure.

Joe Hill has a deal with a bookstore up in his neck of the woods. Every once in a while he posts that his books are available for order and you can request his autograph and a personalized doodle. He pops into the store every few weeks and signs a bunch then they are shipped out. This is usually done when he has a new book or graphic novel or a new edition of something older. I have NOS4A2 signed and doodled.

Started my reread of Cujo as part of my massive Stephen King reread project.

I'm only 50 pages in and my stomach has already twisted into knots two or three times. This is SUCH a bleak book. (And I've read this thing three times before, mind you.)
There are a handful of King I can't/won't read again. Cujo is one, then Pet Semetary and Gerald's Game. Cujo and Pet Semetary because it hurts too much, and Gerald's Game because the whole time I read it I was tense, uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Powerful works all.

Yup, those three make me uncomfortable as well. I'd add "Apt Pupil" and The Dark Half to that list too-- especially the latter. Anything to do with damage to the eyes or brain gets to me, as well as razors.... That book has all of those things.

The Taken by Sarah Pinborough

This is my second Sarah Pinborough book and her writing is really growing on me.

The Taken is a grim take on the Pied Piper and Pinborough makes me feel the guilt, the terror, the regret, the love and the joy of so many characters. This is a story of the best type, a story of victory with a high price.

At the heart of fiction is truth. Pinborough taps into truth with this book.

I look forward to reading more by this author.

16 New Year’s Resolutions Only Book Nerds Can Relate To
#1 is a lie I've stopped telling myself. I will never stop buying books before reading the ones I already have. It simply cannot be done by me.

The one about loaning books, I don't do it anymore. If I just give them to people, I don't feel a sense of loss and resentment when I don't get them back.
It feels good to give them away with no expectations of ever seeing that copy again. It feels better sharing, knowing there's a chance it'll get read by your friend and in a stress free, I gotta make sure I don't lose this book or muck it up fashion.

And I love #12

12. You’ll swear to explore more of your local indie bookstores.
