New pic from "The Stand". Nick Andros meets Tom Cullen. And is scared because he thinks he is a reanimated corpse.

Stephen%2BKing%2527s%2BThe%2BStand%2B-%2BNick%2BAndros%2B%2528002%2529.jpg

Poor Nick. He starts the novel with quite a healthy, if small, body.

But then he gets cut and bruised all over, his teeth are broken, his lips are cut, his nose made to resemble a dripping tomato, his eye almost taken out, his leg hurt by a bullet and infected, his hands and forehead scraped.

He then risks getting an STD, gets shot at, almost dies in a tornado, eats nothing but canned food (even if it was his favorite canned food).

After all of those things, and even more, he surely will have a happy ending. How much worse could it get?

This must be how Nick looks by the end of (his participation in) the novel:

Excellent work! :encouragement::clap:
I don't have a lot of artistic talent so I admire your drawings. I picture Rose the Hat as a bit more menacing. In this pic she looks a bit like Scarlett from Gone with the Wind. Maybe you could make her more feral or sexy or animal-like.

I dunno - just a suggestion.

Have you read 11/22/63 yet? I really like that book.

Do you do commercial drawing as a way of making a living or is it just a hobby?

Yay! Thanks!

The list of SK books I have read is still not very long (I will see that it keeps growing), but still it should bring more diversity. :encouragement:
There is a short story in Different Seasons called "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" - might I suggest you read that one if you haven't already?
Andy from Shawshank Redemption.jpg
It was already made into a movie, of course, but I think you would enjoy the original story.

Thank you. I try my best. Oh, she definitely can be more menacing. Not everyday, or all the time, since they are just a group of retirees traveling with some family members. But she looked less good-humored while she was with the Bradley boy. The giant fang will do that to her looks. I will try to remember to draw a more evidently evil her next time.

Not yet. But I want to read as many books as possible.

Nope. I am a software engineer. But I have loved drawing ever since I was in kindergarten. :triumphant:

Only watched the movie. Very good one, of course. Since I want to read the second series of Percy Jackson-related books after I finish "The Stand", yesterday I went to the bookstore looking for a short story collection (I was looking for Bazaar). I bought "Night Shift". Now I will read one Percy Jackson book, then a couple of short stories, and so on. I also have "Just After Sunset" and "Full Dark, No Stars". I will try to get all the collections, though, since SK's short stories are so good. xD

And we have a winner! :applause:

Thank you! That goes on to show that effort pays. I am horrible at drawing shoes, but I did research the type of shoes Jack is described to wear and tried to be faithful to their design. Contrast that against the more recent shoes Nadine and Larry are wearing in that pic that totally lacks a background. I like the action in that one, but I gotta admit no background, no shading, and no effort on the shoes mark its difference when compared with this one you chose. :culpability:

Now, a pic from "Lisey's Story". Also inside spoiler tags because of something that comes later in the book.

This is Paul Landon. Kind of.

So far, I have drawn non-threatening pics of Randall Flagg and Rose the Hat. A pic of Gerd Allen Cole (also from "Lisey's Story"). Pics of Mark Petrie and Jack Cantori in full business mode.

But this may be the only one with a little more of a book's horror shown in it. I will have to draw more in the future (with at least one Rose the Hat pic), but this is a unique thing for now.

That Gerd Allen Cole one is really creepy. I love that one. Maybe a little less of the centerfold ones, lol. I'd like to see some scary drawings if you feel like doing them. Have you read The Shining or Gerald's Game. A pic of Gage coming after Judd would be awesome. His face is described as disfigured and like a doll poorly put back together, one eye glaring in the opposite direction of the other. That'd probably be very difficult to adapt visually. Shadows can be used to great effect, as I'm sure you've done.

Great work. This really was disturbing in the book. I never quite understood what made him this way. I've read it twice but King never delves into what the 'bad gunky' is. If I'm mistaken, please refresh my memory.

I don't think he says it. What we know, though:

It has affected his family for generations.

His family seems attuned to Boo'ya Moon (or whatever its original name is, if any).

Some affected family members get symptoms like Amanda's. Others get the "bad gunky".

The pool in Boo'ya Moon can get people's minds to stay there and not think of anything else.

Dangerous things live in Boo'ya Moon. If they notice you, they will remember your scent forever and will look out for you.

So I think the bad gunky happens when a monster from the other side takes a ride here on someone else's mind/body. Even mutating the host's body as long as it inhabits it.

Lisey's Story is some of his finest writing. Have you thought of doing a pic of Lisey and Scott under the yum yum tree?

Yes, I have. I am afraid to try Boo'ya Moon, though, either day or night versions...

It should be a really beautiful/really frightening place (beautiful, in the case of the Yum Yum), and I would think of the style of the old Little Nemo in Slumberland, but I am not sure I can pull it off. Of course, Lisey and Scott under the tree is basically just two undressed human beings, so it would be way easier than straight up Boo'ya Moon.

That Gerd Allen Cole one is really creepy. I love that one.

I like that one, too. Perhaps I would do the coloring different today (more shadow and contrast), but I like it even as it is.

Maybe a little less of the centerfold ones, lol.

No love for young mister Tommy Ross's chiseled abs? How dare you? :cold:

And that other one is young Gage Creed all grown up (or almost, at 18), winning a medal in Sydney. You should be proud of him. :nerd:

Maybe I should actually pay what I promised when I said "scantily clad Franni Goldsmith"? She was scantily clad, she just wasn't showing much skin at all. Would that kind of centerfold be better received, for a change? :distrust:

I'd like to see some scary drawings if you feel like doing them. Have you read The Shining or Gerald's Game. A pic of Gage coming after Judd would be awesome. His face is described as disfigured and like a doll poorly put back together, one eye glaring in the opposite direction of the other. That'd probably be very difficult to adapt visually. Shadows can be used to great effect, as I'm sure you've done.

I'll try more scary pics. I will read "The Shining" after reading the 5 books in the second "Percy Jackson" series (don't worry, they are quick to finish). I will be reading the stories in "Night Shift" between those books, so there may be pics from those.

I actually have to go back to "Full Dark, No Stars" and "Just After Sunset". I know there are pics in those waiting to be drawn. Quite a few should be scary. At least one centerfold with the kid from 1922, just because.

Pics I think I should really try are:

Charley the lawn jockey, from "Duma Key" With a good nice blurry and even semi transparent effect, and perhaps joined by an alligator, an upside down flying heron and even the big boy with teef.

Wendigo, from "Pet Sematary". Just some abstract concept. I don't think this one should be very detailed, because it would lose mystery and scare power.

Perse and her tripulation, from "Duma Key". 'Nuff said.

Many different shapes of Bob Gray, from "It".

The leather things with weird shapes, from "Under the Dome". Again, these should be in an abstract style. Nothing detailed and based on our reality could do justice to how we perceive them.

And, of course, full-scare mode Rose the Hat, from "Doctor Sleep". This may (or may not) have to include violence (very bad violence, you know, as in torture and murder) against kids, which might be somewhat strong, though.

I like that one, too. Perhaps I would do the coloring different today (more shadow and contrast), but I like it even as it is.

Great ideas all around. I bet those Bob Gray and Pennywise drawings would be cool. It'll be interesting to see what you highlight from The Shining and Night Shift. There's a story I really like in that collection called "Quitters, Inc.". "Graveyard Shift" is great, too. I'll be looking for them, for sure.
